Description

The Mid-America Board and Batten 14" 4 Board Joined Standard Vinyl Shutter provides a rich, authentic look to the exterior of any home. They are maintenance free vinyl shutters that can be used on surfaces such as wood, aluminum, and masonry. The four joined board and batten shutters allow for a sturdy look, that characterizes an authentic old-world appeal. Mid-America board and batten vinyl exterior window shutters under 55in. in length will have two cross-battens and any shutter 55in. and over in length will have three cross battens. We had to replace our shutters (our original shutters had the wineberry color and were 26 years old). When we saw this Board and Batten design, it caught my eye immediately so I ordered two pairs of them in the same wineberry color - with them destined for the front of our home (both first and second floor). Installation is simple, especially on the first floor. But installing them on the 2nd floor took much more effort. I'm 75 and managed to get my 26' latter up to the 2nd story window. I then had my son hand me the shutters, while my wife had her hands out of the window, holding them in place while I went to drill - that took some effort because it was windy and these shutters are quite light. So although the first floor took only 30 - 45 minutes to attach, the 2nd floor expectantly, took almost 2 hours. In the end, they look absolutely great - but the real test will come after a year or so, because down here in North Carolina - in that heavy afternoon summer heat - I will be curious to see if the shutters fade or oxidize (which my previous ones did early often). The thought of having to climb a ladder to the 2nd story level, just to apply a vinyl protectorant every now and then, is not a task that I would cherish. We got the Board & Batten style shutters and installed into brick/mortar in less than an hour. They look great-will watch to see if color stays consistent over time and update review. They supply 2 style mounting screws depending on house material. On brick, just use mortar drill bit to depth of 2.25” and the plastics screws fill the hole and hold tight. The height of the shutter determines if you need 4 or 6 screws. Happy with the look and ease to install-will know about durability and color consistency over time. ... show more

I really liked these shutters. They have a little bit of a woodgrain look to them, even though they are plastic. They were a bit warped looking, but for my situation, I wasn’t looking at them from the side just straight on. I am happy with the way they look.

This is my #1 go to brand for paintable vinyl shutters. They are a pretty standard vinyl material for shutters. We have also used the PlyGem brand shutters and the thickness is very similar. Just remember that these are not wood or pvc, which will be harder products. These are a great value and they last. There is no warping and they were easy to paint and install. I love these shutters and I will continue to offer them as shutter option on my home builds. ... show more

While others have complained that they were thin and cheap, I feel these were exactly what I expected for a vinyl shutter. They look great on the house and were sorta easy to install on a brick house (would have been a snap on wood). I am hoping my installer didn't put them on too tight but time will tell as they are snug to the house but only just snug i am not sure how much expanding and contracting to expect. There are no pre-drilled holes which can result in uneven, very visable screws. There is a deep dimple where each screw was installed. I wish that I would have purchased shutters that had detachable cross pieces that could hide the hardware.
