This is a good solution for anyone dealing with a 36-inch wide opening above their cooktop / stove and note that there is no longer microwaves that are 36-inches wide. This product is very similar to others, basically a stainless steel "L" that fills the gap or acts like a trim piece. There are a few of these made by the microwave manufacturers, but they are costing between $200 and $300 dollars for the steel trim piece - nearly as much as the microwave. There are also now a few options on Amazon. I chose this one because it had the right dimensions that I needed, it was made of slightly thicker material for sturdiness (some other products had complaints about the material being too thin) and finally this was at a great price (I paid $59.99 on Amazon prior to tax). As I unboxed this, my heart sank, as there were clearly many scratches that were through the protective plastic wrapping on each part (see photos). A quick discussion with Amazon revealed that the warranty for these would still take them back, if I removed the plastic wrapping. With the plastic removed, I could see that the scratches were very minor on the actual steel surface and the front faces were barely marred at all. I was able to quickly polish them out with Scotch-Brite pad and towel. The manufacturer should have better quality control on this and perhaps this will improve. Each metal part has 3 locations for screwing it to the cabinet on each vertical leg and 2 on the horizontal leg. The dimensions were true, with the width being just under 3-inches. Note that there is a slight variation in width at the corner, where the steel was bent. I also noted that both of mine were not exactly a perfect 90-degree angle, but nothing you could notice once installed. Once installed it looks pretty good. We feel that the brushed stainless steel is a slightly different shade or gloss, but only noticeable to the most astute observer. My biggest challenge with these is that I tried to use the provided screws, which ended up being quite a mistake. The first screw had the head of the screw twist off during the installation. Luckily the remaining shaft stuck out far enough that I could remove the remaining shaft. I then went to a larger diameter drill but, thinking that was the problem and the hole needed to be enlarged. Second screw ended up breaking off flush with the cabinet. I tried and tried, but could not get the screw out. Luckily there are 3 sets of holes on the vertical leg, so I was still able to install this. I would just throw away the provided screws and get some good ones to avoid the challenge I had. Overall, I rated this at 4-Stars: Solves the problem, looks pretty nice when complete, great price, some quality control concerns, horrible screws.
