A solid shoe for sure, but VERY tight. I wear a 7.5 in everything, so I went up a half size for this based on the reviews. The 8 was so tight my feet are still tingling from walking around the living room in them to try them out. If I reorder I will probably go a full size and a half up and get these in a 9. Because I couldn't use them comfortably and want to return them without any wear and tear, I took them off pretty quickly so I can't speak to anything else about the shoe. It does feel very sturdy, and all the detail work is great. It's a good looking shoe, with a reliable heft to it, and the soles look perfect for trails of any kind. Also I ordered the "Bungee Cord" color and just a heads up they're greyer than the advertised item image, and the details are brighter pink than the item picture. The review pics people are sharing that list this color are a much better gauge of the actual colors. ... show more

After reading the reviews I went up half a size, I'm 7.5 and got an 8. I can feel them being a tiny bit bigger, but once I wear thick hiking socks, they fit perfectly! Glad I did! They fit nice and tight in a good way, because the last hiking shoes I had (The North Face), my foot felt like dancing around and that doesn't give stability. I love that these boots have Vibram soles. This was the most important point of my criteria to get new boots. I had boots in the past with thick soles, and by hiking in the desert I could feel thorns going up my feet. When I tried the vibram soles, that never happened again, and the grip they have is amazing! I've used them even in slippery river rocks and they performed! The boots are stiff, so I will need to break them and I'll keep updating this post. Also, they look so good! I love the pink color without being overwhelming. Shoes were very comfortable, and good support with heel and arch. I went a half size bigger and fit perfectly, so happy, thanks Merrill. They are boots and did not at all bother or hurt back of my ankle, very happy! I definitely recommend.

    • Great hiking boots!

I bought these Merrell Moab hiking boots for a trip to the Grand Canyon. Hiked trails, but not all the way to the bottom. They were very comfortable - no hot spots or blisters, arch support was perfect for me, good support throughout. Did not walk through any wet areas, so I can't vouch for waterproofing. Daily temperature range was low 40s in the mornings to mid 70s in the afternoons. My feet did not get hot or cold in the boots. They performed fine on dirt and loose gravel. The boots run a little short. I tried on my normal shoe size in a store and my toes were almost touching the tip. Couldn't find a half size up, so I bought a full size up, which means the boots are a little long and wide. I have a narrow heel, average width across the ball of foot, average arch, but low volume foot. I had to wear thick hiking socks (Darn Tough Coolmax) and tighten laces as much boot would allow in order to keep my foot from sliding around. Once lacing was set though, the boots were so comfortable, I didn't give them a second thought the rest of the day. I hope these last a long time! I'm a newbie backpacker/hiker, and I ordered these boots for a big 6 day backpacking trip and they did not disappoint! They were comfortable, sturdy, waterproof through multiple river crossings, and no blisters! Highly recommend!

    • Fits, but doesn't have much arch support or cushion.

I love the fit. I felt like I could hike in them the moment I put them on. Only issue is I feel like the arch support is pretty minimal so we'll see how my foot does on a longer hike. I also need to purchase an insert for it because these shoes are very hard inside.
