I followed other reviewers' advice and sized up by 1/2 a size. This allows room for thicker socks and to have toe space for descents. This boot, in my usual size, would have been too small. I wore them out of the box for a full day. I had no rub areas but they're not as comfortable as others claim. Perhaps they will be after break in. The 4 stars are for the out of the box ability to wear for 8 hours, the price - not bad for Merrell boots -also, my feet don't look massive as can be the case in this type of shoe. Also- Hiking boots aren't all that attractive. That's not their purpose but these are not ugly so that's a bonus! ... show more

I have had these boots almost 2 years now and I can't imagine hiking without them. At first I wasn't sure because they were stiff in the ankle but after a few miles of breaking in that wasn't a problem. I have worn these in mud and even snow and never had wet feet.

Excellent boots! I wear an 8.5 in the Ventilator model, and ordered the same in Gortex. I can wear them, but only with thin socks. They're almost too short. Since they're on sale, I ordered a 9, and wish I hadn't walked in the 8.5s so I could swap them for 9s. Perfect fit.

So, I'm new to hiking, and was just going in my running sneakers. I decided to try these hiking boots out to hopefully have a better hiking experience. I tried to break them in by going on a few walks and taking my kid to the park a few times. The excellent reviews made me think they didn't need much break in at all. Took them on a hike yesterday. They're so stiff, and had no flex while hiking rocks. The grip texture on the bottom is great, but I felt very unstable with such a stiff shoe. I will try them again maybe on an easier trail and hope it gets better. ... show more

So I just received 2 Moab 2 Merrill hikers to compare fit and comfort. The GtX nubuck leather hiker womens size 9.5 I bought because of price but glad I did. This hiker is more narrow in width and has stiffer sole than the Moab 2 WP. Both Moabs have nice roomy toebox. I also take a size 9 in womens Keen presidio 2. I will keep both Moab’s because they are comfortable and have good grip on gravel and rocky climbs. ... show more

I couldn't decide if these hiking boots fit me or not. At first, I thought they were a touch too small but I did the process to see if the boots fit, which included standing in them unlaced and having someone check to see if there was a finger width of space at the back of the shoe. Yes, there was. So after 2 weeks of trying to decide whether to keep them or not, I decide to go for it and buy them. Then I took them out on a hike for a 2 mile walk and I'm happy to say, that they are great. The fit is supportive especially for me with high arches and with an ankle that seems to want to pronate. I think I was not use to wearing shoes after the year of covid. All I wore during that time were lightweight tennis or flips. Merrell is my favorite brand of shoes and has been for some time. I went with my regular size shoe not a 1/2 size up as often is recommended. ... show more
