After attempting to hike up Champlain Mountain in Acadia Nat'l Park in tennis shoes last summer, I realized that I needed better and more supportive trail/hiking shoes. (Note: I'm from Indiana, so hiking here is not nearly as intense). My sister, a seasoned hiker, recommended Merrells and I found these in a store, but when I checked Amazon, I found a better price. They fit true to size and the arch support is amazing, with plenty of room in the toe box as well. I just might buy these in another color because I plan on wearing them for way more than just hiking! Excuse the jammie pants in the photos, I had just opened up the box and was trying them on :)

These were my first merrell shoes and I'm in love. I have ordered two others in different styles. I walk around a lot on rough terrain at work every day in often wet and cold conditions on dirt and gravel. These fit true to size. Are light like a sneaker yet have great arch support and do not need inserts. I have wide feet with high arches and recent right foot surgery thus finding comfortable shoes is a challenge. These are absolutely perfect. Love them.

I upsized half a size but wish i would’ve gone up a whole size so I could wear with bigger socks. Otherwise great shoes with awesome arch support! Put these to the test hiking Stone Mountain and Tallulah gorge in Georgia a few weekends ago and my feet weren’t even sore the next day!

So I got my shoes in. I did order one size up like the past reviews, I wear a 6in a half so I ordered a size 7 glade I did. I can wear thin to medium thick socks now I can't wait to try them on my camping trip.

I have to wear orthotics in most of my shoes, but not these! Great arches and support all over, but quite klunky looking. The two real problems are that my long toes are at the very end, but the arch support would be in the wrong place in a larger size. Good thing I bought these for running errands, since there is no way I could wear hiking weight socks! I either go sock free or wear really thin so-called trouser socks. (This is a familiar problem and why I wear sandals most of the year. Good thing I live in AZ!) The other problem is that the shoes are too bulky to wear with straight-leg pants. The bottom bunches over the shoe instead of having a break. Leggings or thin legged jeans are fine.
