As a police officer with size 15 wide feet, finding duty boots that actually fit, hold up, and don’t wreck my knees has been a struggle. After trying Danner, Bates, and 5.11s, I gave the Merrell Nova 3 Tactical Mids a shot — and I’m glad I did. 👣 Fit & Comfort (5/5) I ordered 15W, and they fit perfectly out of the box — no toe pinching, no pressure points. Feels more like a trail runner than a boot. Lightweight, breathable, and easy on the knees during long shifts. The heel cushioning is excellent for long hours on concrete or pavement. 🌧 Waterproofing (4.5/5) They've handled rain, puddles, and light flooding with no problem. Not insulated, but with thick socks, they’re fine in colder weather. 🚓 On-Duty Performance (5/5) Traction is excellent — no slipping during foot pursuits or wet conditions. Just the right balance of ankle support and mobility. Great for patrol, traffic stops, foot beats, and range training. Still holding up strong. 🔧 Durability (TBD but promising) Months in and no signs of failure — stitching, sole, and waterproofing all still solid. Toe guard and outsole seem like they’re built for punishment. 🛠 Pro Tip: Wear them on a couple shorter shifts first. They break in quickly, but feel even better after a few wears. 👮♂️ Bottom Line If you’re in law enforcement, security, EMS, or any job that requires hours on your feet, these are a smart pick — especially if you have big or wide feet. These are the best boots I've ever owned. The wide toebox is perfect for my wide feet and bunion issues. The boots still look brand new after several months of 14 hours/day daily wear. I'm mostly walking on concrete and haven't had any knee or hip pain I get with sneaker type boots, so the soles are doing their job absorbing impact. I will say that while they are completely waterproof, they are not breathable. My socks are not dry at the end of 14 hour days. All in all, these are my new goto boots. ... show more

    • Excellent fit and comfort, but not at all waterproof.
Very comfortable shoe, out of the box nearly perfect fit and support with a solid lacing system and tread that works in both urban environments and on the trails. However these shoes are not at all waterproof as advertised. The right shoe leaks almost immediately right where sole meets the upper on the outside toe box and the left will slowly leak through if wet for any prolonged amount of time. Have had these shoes only a week, have mostly worn around town and on one hike which left me with soaked socks. Would not recommend purely because of this issue, which is a shame because everything else about these shoes is nearly perfect. ... show more

The Nova 3 is a great boot so far, excellent fit, very comfortable, the durability is outstanding on the range or in use in a tactical setting with loaded vest, helmet and firearms . I have not used them in rain conditions yet. I recommend these boots!

These shoes are total crap, just like everything Merrell makes now. 2 months of use on trails and the sides are already busting out and tread is falling off. Totally unacceptable. They were comfortable but the shortcuts Merrell now takes in making their products shows with how quickly they fall apart. I thought it might be different buying their combat boots but I am wrong. Don't just not order these shoes, don't use Merrell at all. Their whole line up is cheap products charged at a premium price.     • Light and durable.
I am retired from the military and an avid outdoorsman. I take footwear very seriously and like to do my research before a purchase. Buying boots on Amazon without being able to try them on has always made me hesitant. Yes, there are free returns, but once I’ve committed the funds to a purchase I’d like it to go right and avoid the uncertainty of the refund timeline. So, I wanted to share the info I would have liked to know before I made this purchase. These are great lightweight, well cushioned day hikers with a great moisture barrier and really good traction. They are comfortable enough for daily wear around town, and have what it takes to perform off trail for rec hiking and flatland off trail excursions. I have a narrow foot, and the toe box on this boot is wide. Not wide enough to let my foot slip around in the front, but enough to cause a little bunching of the material under the bottom row of laces. I almost returned them for that reason. I’m picky and worried that it would get to me. I was over it fast and don’t notice it much at all. They have a great moisture barrier lining, but don’t sweat your feet out like some can. These are good boots for what they do, they are stylish enough to pull off with jeans without feeling like “that guy” and still feel like I have something useful on my feet if I need them. ... show more

Nice comfortable, rugged “urban lite hikers.” For suburban and urban terrain, awesome. Would I take them to a job site, or in the mountains and jungles for ops? No. That is not what they are made for. Trail runs and shoot and scoot games. Perfect. Just know what you are getting them for.
