As a police officer with size 15 wide feet, finding duty boots that actually fit, hold up, and don’t wreck my knees has been a struggle. After trying Danner, Bates, and 5.11s, I gave the Merrell Nova 3 Tactical Mids a shot — and I’m glad I did. 👣 Fit & Comfort (5/5) I ordered 15W, and they fit perfectly out of the box — no toe pinching, no pressure points. Feels more like a trail runner than a boot. Lightweight, breathable, and easy on the knees during long shifts. The heel cushioning is excellent for long hours on concrete or pavement. 🌧 Waterproofing (4.5/5) They've handled rain, puddles, and light flooding with no problem. Not insulated, but with thick socks, they’re fine in colder weather. 🚓 On-Duty Performance (5/5) Traction is excellent — no slipping during foot pursuits or wet conditions. Just the right balance of ankle support and mobility. Great for patrol, traffic stops, foot beats, and range training. Still holding up strong. 🔧 Durability (TBD but promising) Months in and no signs of failure — stitching, sole, and waterproofing all still solid. Toe guard and outsole seem like they’re built for punishment. 🛠 Pro Tip: Wear them on a couple shorter shifts first. They break in quickly, but feel even better after a few wears. 👮♂️ Bottom Line If you’re in law enforcement, security, EMS, or any job that requires hours on your feet, these are a smart pick — especially if you have big or wide feet. These are the best boots I've ever owned. The wide toebox is perfect for my wide feet and bunion issues. The boots still look brand new after several months of 14 hours/day daily wear. I'm mostly walking on concrete and haven't had any knee or hip pain I get with sneaker type boots, so the soles are doing their job absorbing impact. I will say that while they are completely waterproof, they are not breathable. My socks are not dry at the end of 14 hour days. All in all, these are my new goto boots. ... show more

After 23 yrs active duty Army I know good boots from bad ones. Now retired, I needed a lightweight, nice looking and comfortable boot in my role as a JROTC instructor. These are likely the most comfortable lace up “duty” boot I’ve ever worn. I say that having worn Danner and Rocky as my main duty boots while in uniform. Good choice for an urban duty boot where department policy allows. Fit: Size is accurate with a fit like a running shoe. Snug fit with just enough wiggle room in the toe box. Comfort: No break-in necessary, soft out of the box. I took these to the local high school track and ran some laps and worked the stairs; no problem. On a hot Summer day, it is a tad warm due to the waterproof lining. Less sweaty than a full leather boot, but more than a sneaker. Weight: Size 8 is approximately 13oz/boot. My size 8 Danner Tachyons are 16oz/boot. Design: It’s a stretch to call this a ‘boot’. The ankle coverage is more than a ‘low’ boot/shoe, but less than a true ‘mid’ boot. Durability: Haven’t tested it, but I am apprehensive about running through the woods in these given the mostly fabric design. ... show more

Very comfortable shoe, out of the box nearly perfect fit and support with a solid lacing system and tread that works in both urban environments and on the trails. However these shoes are not at all waterproof as advertised. The right shoe leaks almost immediately right where sole meets the upper on the outside toe box and the left will slowly leak through if wet for any prolonged amount of time. Have had these shoes only a week, have mostly worn around town and on one hike which left me with soaked socks. Would not recommend purely because of this issue, which is a shame because everything else about these shoes is nearly perfect. ... show more
