    • Not what I expected from a Merrell Moab

I've been wearing Moabs for years. I can't even remember how long ago my first pair was, but I love them. I was pretty excited about a mostly leather option to look a little dressier around work, but to my disappointment, not only was it lacking the pull loop in the back to help get them on over my heel; as others pointed out, by design, this can't be very waterproof. Water can come right in around the tongue. I buy Moabs for function, not form. They fit amazing, work very well at repelling water (I've hiked around in shallow surf with no issues), and are very rugged. They've even taken care of some plantar fasciitis I was having issues with in other shoes due to their great arch support. I wear them to the office, hiking in the mountains, and walking the mall. They last me several years before I wear the soles out. I'm disappointed that this nicer looking variant isn't made with the same functional capability as the others. That being said, they are still very comfortable for the brief time I wore them, just like my other Moabs. However, my expectations were a lot higher for the functional aspects, so I'm returning them immediately and going back to the Moab 2. Sigh. ... show more

For an "adventure" / hiking boot....the sole/sole padding is pretty thin. And traction? What traction? Im on my feet all day, Walking 11+ miles a day in the PNW weather. Aside from slipping and slidding with every step, you can feel the smallest pebble when you step on it. I bought these based off of everyones reccomendation for a good hiking walking boot that will keep your feet dry. Pretty much, these feel like my old wore out danners. Maybe a good pair of insoles will help? But then again, why spend $100+ on hiking boots just to buy insoles? Put these on right out of the box and went to work. Doesnt require any break in period, due to the thin sole. Comfy, if you dont plan to do much adventuring, walking or hiking. Maybe stick to adventuring to the grocery store, or the quick hike to the mailbox, in these. ... show more

It's a fairly comfortable boot. I'm not sure how well it will hold up over time though, The section above the toes has already warped in a wavy pattern from the kneeling I do on my job. My biggest gripe, and the reason this gets three stars, is because it is not very waterproof. If any water gets near the laces, you're done. There are no gussets on the tongue to keep water out. It would have been one more dollar worth of fabric and it would have drastically helped. The tread is great, and sticks to wet rocks better than most boots I have tried, I just have to wear waterproof socks if I know there will be a stream on the hike. ... show more

I have a 4E wide foot. Its extremely difficult to find real comfortable plus protection boot that will allow me to take 15,000 steps a day if not more. AND IM DIABETIC. Got ideas for you guys if your interested in hearing it..

Boots fit right out of box. Very comfortable. Wore in the snow and they are waterproof. A little bit on the heavy side, but worth the weight because they feel like they swaddle my feet and offer very good support. Haven’t taken them on any long hikes yet so I can’t report on their performance.
