  • Sturdy, comfortable
Size: 11 Color: Walnut
I wore these shoes backpacking through Europe for two months. I walked hundreds of kilometers, including highly rugged terrain in the High Tatras and the Albanian Alps. They have held up the entire time with no signs of damage. They have great grip and saved my ankles more than once after an awkward slip. They’re very comfortable and I can honestly say my feet barely ever felt sore, even after walking 25km trails. I hiked through mountains, as well as walking for hours on concrete and cobblestone European streets, and I found they worked perfectly for both scenarios. These versions are not waterproof, but I find they’re pretty resistant and it takes a lot to get soaked. They dry relatively quickly as well. The downsides: They’re hot and stuffy. You need merino wool socks, and even then my feet got pretty sweaty. They have a reputation as true-to-size and fast to break in, but I found this wasn’t true. I went a size up. The worst aspect by far is the soles, which are weirdly low quality and simply must be replaced with inserts. But you should do that anyway if you’re hiking. They’re also quite ugly if you care about appearance. But again, they are for hiking that’s not a concern for me. I highly recommend these shoes, especially because they are frequently on sale. They were $50 on Amazon when I purchased them. For the quality, the comfort, the durability and the price, I think they are great shoes; especially if you want no-fuss shoes that work for urban walking and outdoor hiking. ... show more

  • Great Shoe!
Size: 11.5 Color: Walnut
Before I purchased this shoe on Amazon, I had been trying on different brands and styles of shoes at various stores. I knew I wanted something built with good materials that would last me several years, look good with a variety of different clothing options, and work well for a wide variety of activities including hiking, working out, walking around all day, etc., and also at a good price. I'm not a fan of spending tons of money on several different pairs of shoes tailored to each individual activity. I found a pair of these at a store and really liked how they looked and fit. My foot fits well in the size I purchased, and there is some arch support as well, but not overpowering. I've never has a pair of Merrell's before, but they're known for good quality and these shoes look and feel like good quality. They have real leather, thick tractiony soles, an agressive look, and tons of color options. I've worn them for a couple of weeks and they feel great. The best part was the price. At the store I tried them on at, they cost $120. Then I checked on Amazon and they had my size for under $60. I noticed the price was different depending on size, and possibly color, with some of them costing as much as $120. I'm not sure why this is. You might want to select different options before purchasing to see if one size or color is a better price. They are also probably a bit heavy for people that want something really light for running or working out, but for me it just makes my workout a little more challenging. It's not supposed to be easy, right? Other than that, there were a couple of other little issues I should mention. For some reason, the shoe I got looked like a lighter shade than what was pictured. Then I held the shoe up next to the picture, and they looked the same color. It may be that the pictures were taken under different lighting conditions that made them seem a bit darker, I don't know, but I've seen other reviews that say the color is different, and I thought so too until I held them right next to each other. A trick of the mind. The last issue is size, and this is the most important. I'm glad I tried them on at a store first, because I generally wear a 10-1/2, sometimes an 11. At the store I needed an 11-1/2, but they fit perfectly! I ordered an 11-1/2, and again they fit perfectly. So I would probably order one size large if you want them to fit. On a last note, I liked these so much that I ordered another pair of a different color. I felt like these were such a great shoe at such a great price, it was well worth it to have a second pair. These will probably last me a good 10 years between the two. ... show more

  • US 10 1/2 Wearers: Order an 11. Otherwise, perfect shoe.
Size: 10.5 Color: Earth
I am a US 10.5 shoe wearer, we are the majority/plurality of men in the United States, and we know exactly what size shoes are and there is no fooling us. This shoe is .5 sizes too small. That's it. Next time I will order an 11. There is, of course, zero percent chance my foot got larger right now, it's just a .5 size off, as usual with Amazon shoes. However, this is the best pair of shoes I've owned in a while. Decades even. They are long lasting, work great in wet surfaces, handle mud, they're not too warm or cold, they shed water, they don't make my feet stink, no callouses/bunions, no blisters, no aching feet, but they pinch the toes ever so slightly during longer runs/hikes, so they are 1/2 size too small. That's it. That's as good as mail-order shoes get these days unless you just order them from your bespoke Cobbler in The Square Mile. A perfect 10.5 will not produce bruises under my big toes during extended use, and I'll never notice the pinch at the toes. This shoe is just a tad too small, the usual Cross-ocean cost saving measure. When will they learn you can't cheat rulers? Never it seems. ... show more

  • Comfortable out of the box
Size: 11.5 Color: Black Night
I had a hiking trip coming up in Olympic and Rainier National Parks, and my old hiking boots were always too narrow for me and I needed something more comfortable. After exhaustively reading reviews about different hiking boots, I went for these Moabs. The second I tried them on, they were comfortable. I tried to break them in before the trip and on day 1 I realized that wasn’t necessary, this is like the Nike sneaker of hiking shoes, just astonishingly comfortable. On my trip, I hiked muddy trails, scree, paved trails, roads, uneven rocky ground, everything, and they held up well and not even a hint of a blister. My legs were wrecked by the end of the week from clambering up mountains, but my feet were completely fine. To say I’m impressed with these boots is an understatement. One thing on fit - I did the “try before you buy” thing on Amazon and ordered this pair, a wide pair in the same size, and Moab version 2. The regular pair has a relatively wide tow box already, part of why they are so comfortable, so the actual ‘wide’ pair were VERY wide on me. Version 2 and Version 3 of this shoe are very similar but I found version 3 to have a slightly more comfortable sole, and a better tread pattern. I found the fit was basically identical. ... show more
