  • Some of the best hiking and every-day shoes I've ever owned.
I bought my first pair of Merrell Moab 2 (they were called Ventilators then) before doing a month-long 250 mile hike along the John Muir trail. I prefer these over hiking "boots" because they have much better ventilation and this can be key to preventing blisters. I saw a lot of people have to drop out of that hike somewhere along the way, and almost all of them were due to foot issues rather than fatigue or other injuries. Almost all of those people had full on above-the-ankle hiking boots, including goretex ones. The thing about waterproof hiking boots is sure they dont let water in... but they also dont let it out and your sweat gets trapped inside turning your foot into a mushy swamp and then the blisters come in and you're done for. I love these type of "trail runner" shoes because I feel more agile in them, they still offer great protection against trail conditions, and most importantly I've never had foot issues with them which is priceless. I also have pretty wide feet and they fit great. These shoes not only held up through that entire 250 mile hike but I wore them through many more hikes after that. When they finally did give out after many years, I was so satisfied that I immediately bought another pair. I am now on my 3rd pair of these Merrell shoes and I love them, I will always have a pair. They don't wear out because of quality issues, I just do a lot of hiking and really beat mine up. If you want a high quality pair of hiking shoes (or just every day shoes like I also wear mine) that are very comfortable and won't give you blisters I highly recommend these Merrell Moabs. ... show more

  • Nice shoe for walking
I do a daily morning walk and wanted something a little wider to accommodate my injured big toe. Shoes are very comfortable and fit well but the darn laces are way too long. When I tie them to keep from stepping on them, it looks like Mickey Mouse ears and I get tired of hearing the flopping when I am trying to enjoy being outside and alone. The shoes are fine and will last a long time but I gotta do something about the laces. ... show more

  • Excellent Shoes: Great performance with zero break in needed.
Size: 9 Color: Walnut
Based on other reviews here I was concerned that the fit of the Moab 2 Ventilator shoes would be worse than the prior version. I was very pleasantly surprised that this was not the case. I find the Moab 2's to be better out of the box than the Moab version. My last pair of Moabs left me with blisters until after a very long break in period. They were tight at the top and the blisters were on the outside of my right heel. The new Moab 2's have been extremely comfortable immediately. I have "put on" about 15 miles so far of quite hilly street walking and find these shoes very comfortable and I have had no issues with either blisters or tightness. I actually like the change in the lacing pattern as it fits the top of my foot better than the predecessor version. I have had no issues with heel looseness at all. I haven't noticed any increase in arch support as some have noted, but am happy with the stability the shoes provide. For background, I have been wearing Moabs for many years starting with the regular ones and shifting to the ventilated models over the past three or four years. Update after four months: Shoes remain extremely comfortable. I walk 5-7 miles a day on rough paved roads. Last pair of Moab vents went about 9 months before the soles were too worn down to use. These Moab 2's seem to be wearing a bit more so far. I doubt I will get six months before needing to replace them. This is unfortunate as the uppers and insoles are still in great shape. ... show more

  • These are solid shoes, I haven't owned a pair of shoes this rugged for a long time.
Size: 10 Wide Color: Beluga
The shoes came on time, their appearance is just a pictured, and with the extra savings they offered, very affordable. They are not as heavy as lesser quality shoes that cost the same, but you can tell just by wearing them that they are solid. I ordered my size: 10W, and the site suggested I might want a 9.5 as they run large. I could probably fit well in the 9.5 but want to add extra cushion inside for my old feet. In addition, the extra space leaves space for work socks. Great product Merrill, I will come back for more. ... show more

  • INCREDIBLE
Size: 11 Color: Granite
Me and wife got into trails and we always complained about wearing different shoes as they just didn't fit our comfort expectations on trails. These really do work well regardless of rocky or sandy trails. Super comfortable and really lets us enjoy nature and focus on the things round us not where we step and our feet. ... show more

  • Step up your hiking game (I'll see myself out)
Size: 9.5 Color: Black Night
TLDR; high arch support, great grip, no heel slip. I recently started to undesk myself and walking around the crop fields pushing about 3 miles per day for a hike. Wearing a 20lb vest and occasionally carrying an additional 40lb sandbag, I was looking for grippy shoe that was not a boot. The hills where I walk are quite steep in places and needed something that was not a road running shoe. I remember a co-worker - real outdoorsy type - consistently wore Merrell's and thought I would give these a shot. There is a nice amount of padding around the tongue and heal. The odd part, at least for me, was the arch support that felt quite high and hard. I don't know if this is normal but this did not cause discomfort after any of the hikes that I have taken. They fit true to size and the medium width had a nice amount of wiggle room for my toes which was nice to encounter as some shoes are restrictive in the toe box. I will be getting a waterproof pair for the wet mornings and boots for the winter. Merrell has won me over. ... show more
