I had owned same Mid boots but with Merrell proprietary water proofing until they started to fall apart during my strenuous hike over rocky mountain and I have decided to buy new ones and found these in goretex version, first thing noticed that they're lighter and decided to check them on my hanging scales for luggages: Proprietary Merrell WP version is over 1280grams a pair These Goretex are around 1060grams and feet don't feel the weight of shackles As usually, no break in required but I still walked in them in forrest park for 7 miles and tried them on my first hike in mountains yesterday - awesome boots. The only other one I have tried to weight are Salomon's Mid GoreTex - they're 980 grams but bite the top of my feet - they should be very good for people with normal in shoes.

Four years ago I bought these same boots from a local sporting goods outlet. I liked them then; they worked perfectly for my needs. I recently ordered another pair but from Amazon this time around. Same song, different verse. They are so comfortable that I can't imagine buying any other brand. I am not an avid hiker any longer, but continue to walk quite a lot on a daily basis, on both flatter surfaces and steeper inclines. I really enjoy my Merrell's. The comfort is fantastic, and dollar for dollar one of the best footwear options going. I must admit that I did replace the original insoles with some Dr. Scholl's heavy duty (over 200 lbs) insoles. I occasionally suffer from plantar fasciitis, and the added support from the sturdier insoles only serve to make this an even better boot.

I have somewhat long and skinny feet so I need a narrow shoe. The Merrell's have always fit me well. I have tried the non-waterproof varieties and they breathe well but obviously aren't good in wet conditions. The "waterproof" ones don't breathe at all, leaving me with sweaty stinky feet. The Gore-Tex versions are what you want if you need a waterproof boot. These breathe pretty well and keep your feet dry. The foot bed is a little thin and soft, so they are not ideal for extremely rocky or rugged terrain. Good for everyday use, hiking, working, etc. Will buy more when these wear out.

After two failed try-before-you-buy size 10 1/2 hiking boots trials [my normal shoe size is 10 1/2], and after much research, and after hours of searching through the available hiking boot options on Amazon and other sites, I came across these black size 11 Morrell Moab 2 mid GTX hiking boots at a very nice discounted price [only the size 11 black pair had the nice discounted price]. I had preferred a different color, but I decided that the lower price on black size 11 boots made sense. It turned out that it was a good decision. I actually like the extra space afforded by the 1/2 larger size. Moreover, after adding a set of Superfeet Trailblazer insoles, the boots actually felt perfect. I wore them for two days of break-in around the house. Then I used them for a 4 mile hike on very hilly, rocky, twisty, and deeply wooded trails, and they felt great. They were very comfortable all through the hike. I also crossed a small stream and had no issues with water leakage. Of course, I never expected any water issues with the Gore-Tex membrane in the Moab 2s. Now, of course, these boots are still new, and how they wear over the long haul might be a different issue. But, as of now, I am very happy with these Moab 2s.
