They are metal so they are heavier than the plastic ones, but nice and smooth and when the teeth brush the scalp (again fine hair), it's noticeable (a bit harsher than the plastic). However these feel so much more secure in the hair. I've put hats on over them, worn them all day and these don't slip or slide, I don't have to reset them once they're in unless I don't like how my hair is laying.
