I definitely recommend this cutting compound. I smooths out minor abrasions, takes out swirls from sanding, and is a good way to prep for polishing. This is a good price and a good value for what it provides. It will keep a vehicle looking nice.

This is probably the best stuff I have used to take out heavy swirls and deeper scratches with. I have used this with a rotary with a wool pad to get out heavy swirls and the random deeper scratches at the same time in about 4 or 6 passes at speed 1600 to 1800 RPM with some pressure on the first 2 or 3 passes and just the weight of the machine the last two or so. Used it today with a foam cutting pad on the rotary at a speed of 1400 to 1600 RPM used the same 4 to 6 passes as above. Got the swirls out and finished out pretty good. I have also used this with cutting foam pads on the dual action polisher and it removed heavy swirls very well. Just not so much with the deeper scratches like the wool pad did, at least not without doing more passes with heavy pressure. Still used the 4 to 6 passes with heavy downward pressure for the first 3 passes and light pressure on the last 2 or 3 passes. This actually finishes out pretty well this way with very little need to use a polish afterwards. Im pretty sure you could finish out very well with this even by using it with a polishing pad for real light swirls ... just finish of with light pressure for the last couple or few passes. Being that this compound uses SMAT abrasives (the abrasives dont break down) this allows the product to cut really fast and allow for fewer passes than compounds/products that use DAT abrasives (abrasives that break down with more passes). Which of course will save you time and effort. This does dust up using the wool pad quite a bit.. but that is usually from having too much loaded on the wool pad along with the heat generated. If after a few passes you feel like its a bit dry you can mist the paint area with a little bit of water to reactivate the compund and do a few more passes. With foam pads I dont have near as much dusting when used on the rotary ... on the dual action however it will dust pretty good. But the dust doesnt ever hurt the paint finish or the performance of the compound. This is a great compound to use in a variety of ways. The method depends on your level of defects, paint hardness, and what you condider good enough.

Why did I buy this product you may ask. Well, we had just about finished the deal on a new car when the salesman suggested we buy a special protectorant that only a highly qualified trained certified technician could apply using special tools and pads. And for only $700!! Sound familiar? We declined and started some research on this subject. We failed to find any testimonials that confirmed what the salesman stated. We found that different car dealers have different brands. I read no labels stating the length of time the product lasted after application. So after researching different brands I came upon Mequiars. They have been around a long time in the care finish field and they have an excellent reputation, so I bought this sealant and applied it to my other vehicle, a 10 year old pickup. What I can say so far is that it applies very easily. Wipe it on, rub it in, take a break, and wipe it off. Finish it off with a clean cloth (what is this micro-fiber stuff? I used old cotton T-shirts) and the finish looked great. Now comes the big question: how long will it last? My truck has a 1 year old hard tonneau cover on the truck bed, so I essentially have 2 types of surfaces; one new and one 10 years old. I completed the application on June 21, 2013. This truck is located in Southwest Florida and sees lots and lots of sun (along with UV radiation), tree sap, incontinent birds that seek me out, and lots of rain. I will monitor the protectorant over the next few months and report back the results. I expect water to bead; sap and bird dropping removal to be easier, Right now, I give Mequiars 4 stars. They will get 5 stars if it lasts a good long time and if I'm back next month with a bad report, I'll adjust it down. This is a follow-up on my original review. It has been just over 2 months since I applied this product. I find that water still beads up on the sides of the truck, however, there is no water beading on the hood, roof, or tonneau cover, the area most exposed to the hot Florida sun. I will just have to re-apply sealant to those surfaces. This was a brutal test but I still consider this sealant to be a good product at a good price.

I spilt some gasoline on my black motorcycle tank and whipped it with paper towels which left a few fine looking scratches that I tried to get rid of with another scratch removal brand but it didn't work. I bought this stuff to try and mind you I did the hand application, not with a rotary tool. My tank looks as good as when I first bought the bike. It's beautiful and shiny black! It took about 4 applications to finally buff out those scratches, so the product was successful. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking to get rid of annoying swirl/time scratches in your paint.

First time ever using polishing product. cleaned paint surface with a IPA water blend then tried it with a few dabs on a clean microfiber cloth, hand rubbed it for a few seconds on three stubborn spots (unknown substance, possible dried bird poop). rubbing alcohol and Goo Off wouldn't get them off. Truly amazing results. this is on a 2 month old Black paint with pearly undercoat. highly recommended. extremely user friendly.
