    • Great beginner telescope
Got this for me and my 12 year old to be able to look at the different planets and stars. While it is easy to setup, and the picture is really nice when you can find things, my only problem with is it's pretty hard to locate planets or the moon with the eye piece. We were only able to find the moon and it looks amazing. Unfortunately we were unable to find anything else with it. Probably user error, but I would also like to think that the spotting scope and the telescope would be looking at the same thing. ... show more

I bought this telescope to add more fun memories to our fireside family nights. Right out of the box, It was easy to install. In minutes we were looking at the craters on the moon. Unfortunately it was too cloudy for real constellation gazing. However, the kids loved it. I am going to combine it with my SkyView app so we can really watch the night sky.     • tripod not stable in the least
tripod wont' tighten in place without moving the scope from your spotted planet/star. No precision movement possible. My binoc's are better! Phone attachement is such that the scope bounces up with the weight of the phone when you "tighten" the screws to hold the position and you again lose the planet sighting.     • Difficult to Target
I got this because, as a teenager, I had a reflector telescope that I really enjoyed. I thought it would be fun to get back into amateur astronomy. Assembly was a breeze. This is light-weight, and it comes with a very handy carrying case. What I found extremely difficult was targeting the astronomical body I wanted to study. The finder scope did me little good. It is not automatically aligned with the big telescope. You have to align it, which is quite a challenge. I could draw the moon into the finder, but it was not in the main telescope. Then I managed to get the moon into the view of the big telescope. I tightened the lever to hold the target, but when I tried to adjust the finder to get the target into the cross-hairs, the scope moved no matter how careful I was. It is just too lightweight to be steady while making adjustments. Having said that, the view of the moon was magnificent. I could see the craters and mountains very clearly. Until I solve the problem of aim, I will not be able to bring any of the planets into view. ... show more
