  • It’s helping me recover, be up and around
Color: Black Size: Medium Style: Ankle Stabilizer
As I continue to recover from a bad sprain I’m now using this Med Spec ASO Ankle Stabilizer In oder to allow me to walk while protected and stable, finding them to be comfortable and protective. After my injuries my wife ordered this Med Spec ASO Ankle Stabilizer along with a boot from Amazon to help me heal. In both cases we are very happy with our choices. They arrived the next day thanks for Amazon Prime, and both have worked well for me. A few weeks ago I took a bad hit, spraining my right ankle and nailing my left knee (don’t ask). As I’ve recovered I’ve had to deal with a bruised foot, the sprain, and needing to support one, while not bothering the other. At this point I continue to have swelling in the ankle, deep bruising in the foot and ankle, but the need to get up and around. I’m finding this Med Spec ASO Ankle Stabilizer to be giving me the support I need, but without pain to the deep bruising. Because of the nature of my injuries I’ve been unable to actually put this Med Spec ASO Ankle Stabilizer or my previous boot on by myself. We cannot tell if this is a one person job, but throughout it’s had to be a job I cannot do from my position - so something to keep in mind, but again, it may simply be my injury. The Med Spec ASO Ankle Stabilizer is lightweight and does not hinder my movement. It feels nice as it’s wrapped around the ankle, but again, it’s not hurting nor causing pain across the foot, though I feel protected. I am not wearing socks in these images - as you can see - but these were taken to test the size and take photos for this review. I have since worm them only with socks. While I did not find discomfort wearing no socks, I do feel I’m more comfortable walking with them WITH the socks - as if they give me a little more cushion, but also a feeling of protection. But I THINK I could go without and be fine. * I did wear them around the house that first time without socks for about an hour and I was fine. I like that the ties can be adjusted like a shoe in order to adjust tightness. We’ve worked a few times to get that just right, but it was easy to do and didn’t take too long. I feel the solid, but soft support along the ankle. It keeps me comfortable, but protected. I tried to use them in a pair of slip on casual shoes - the Med Spec ASO Ankle Stabilizer did not fit. I am using them in a pair of older gym shoes - I did not want to risk stretching my main pair of gym shoes - and find that the Med Spec ASO Ankle Stabilizer works well. My wife had to extend out the shoes and could not really tighten it all the way down - meaning the shoes do feel loose on the foot. But at this point I’m still doing limited walking. I think as I can walk more I’ll continue to use the Med Spec ASO Ankle Stabilizer at least another week, and I will have to figure out how to deal with the looser shoe. But as I need to feel protected and strength in the ankle, I’ll deal. In the end I’m very happy with the Med Spec ASO Ankle Stabilizer and will use it as long as I need it. And we’ll keep it around for any... what-if. ... show more

  • Comfortable, supportive & not too bulky
Color: Black Size: Medium Style: Ankle Stabilizer
I tried to research these which was a bit difficult with so many choices and tradoffs. This one seemed to have sincere and descriptive reviews. I wanted something that helped me not roll my injured, but healing, ankle. Something not too stiff and without hard sides but still supportive and not just a sock. I wanted relatively easy to get on and off, adjustable, that fit under most shoes and sneakers and allowed most activities without being too noticeable to me or others. I admit I googled a video to see how properly to put it on and liked that it explained which side to wrap first depending if injury was inside or outside area of ankle. Only used a couple days but appears well made and designed. I’m happy with purchase. ... show more

  • Well made, good stabilization, pain to put on
Color: Black Size: Small Style: Ankle Stabilizer
This brace was recommended to me by the PT at my orthopedic office. I have an ankle injury (partial torn ligament) and needed more support as I go through physical therapy and trying to heal. I tried other, more simple braces and they weren't horrible, but this one is definitely superior. It is a pain in the neck to put on because I am larger and bending over to lace it and wrap it correctly takes an embarrassing amount of energy, but it is well worth it once it is on correctly. It provides the best ankle support of anything I have tried. I wore it all around a two day trip to NYC and it really helped my pain a ton. I am also an Occ health RN and have started only using this kind in our clinic for my workers with ankle concerns. ... show more

  • A little Difficult to get on and off and wrap around strap is too short
Color: Black Size: Large Style: Ankle Stabilizer
Bought two of these due to a long time muscular weakness in my leg and ankle muscles to help support my foot. A foot doctor wanted me to get a custom made Phoenix brace, which I did. But the molded plastic inside the bottom and sides made it very difficult to wear and walk inside a shoe. This item is a compromise. It won't hold my foot as stable as the custom brace but it fits easily inside a shoe and offers more stability than no brace at all. The biggest complaint I have is I have a wider leg just above the ankle making it difficult to lace up properly as there is not enough lace and the after getting it on completely, there is an elastic wrap sewn into the back that goes around to the front of the leg and it has velcro on one side to hold the other side together covering the laces. The wrap is not long enough to go around a person's leg if it is larger. After leaving the wrap on it will bind and hurt in a few hours time. The only solution is cut it off at the back where the wrap around piece is stitched on and throw it away. Which I did on both. Now the laces are open in front and it works well without the wrap. If they wanted to make a better product they would make longer laces and a longer wrap around flap. ... show more

  • Built tough, thick Velcro throughout
Color: Black Size: Large Style: Ankle Stabilizer
Note: *I neglected to measure my ankle and I would recommend this step for most accurate fit. I purchased a ‘Large’ for my narrow feet coming in hot in size 10.5. Based on the Medical Specialties shoe size chart, I should have bought the Medium. It's slightly loose in the heal (my fault due to not measuring) but I’m able to fix the laxity in the heal with the side straps. (I had to look at the directions for the two side Velcro straps, which each pass first under the heal). The wearer must get this step correct or the stabilizer will not feel snug and secure around the ankle. Overall, this is a well-constructed stabilizer which I'm using for my Weber 2 ankle injury. Hopeful that if I do have significant syndesmosis injury, perhaps compression can help to stabilize it because I'm too mobile to sit still even on my broken ankle. ... show more
