I've always like the work of Sunshine Cobb and this book did not disappoint. It has projects in it that are easy to follow and lots of other good suggestions, like keeping dust down in the studio and how to make magic water. • I have found some very helpful tips for slab building I haven't used before but am eager to try.
Format: Hardcover
I am an experienced potter and hand builder by choice. I really like the environmental friendliness of hand-building (no waste, and no water needed), and the variety of building styles that can be incorporated. I also enjoyed some of the projects that I found in the book, which gave me a whole new perspective on how to hand build new projects that I'm eager to try for the first time. There were also many other helpful tips on exercises to help maintain muscle stability and avoid repetitive use injury, as well as studio tips and much more. A really comprehensive book that encompassed much more than just building projects! ... show more

  • This is by far the best book on hand building I have ever seen or ...
Format: Hardcover
This is by far the best book on hand building I have ever seen or owned. I highly recommend it to every potter whether you hand build or throw on the wheel. Even wheel throwers will gain tips and knowledgeable in site. The author, Sunshine Cobb, is a young, gifted potter, who will go down in the history of the clay world as one of the best in the business. Her interviews with other potters is a nice touch. Her step by step guide is easy to follow and understand. The bonus...there are templates! Buy this book, you will not regret it. A very small price to pay for all that is jam packed in this publication. ... show more

  • The most useful, practical pottery book in my (extensive!) library...
Format: Hardcover
I have a LOT of pottery books. Most of them are just pretty pictures, often of things I would never even want to make. And I usually throw pots on the wheel instead of handbuilding. But I really liked Sunshine Cobb's work, so I bought the book to see if I could pick up any tips. I actually read the book, cover to cover! She did a fantastic job of explaining WHY so many of my handbuilt pots failed to live up to my expectations, and showed, in detail, ways that almost can't fail. I am amazed at how much more I enjoy handbuilding now, and how much success I'm having at actually getting my ideas to WORK in clay. A fantastic book! ... show more
