Description

Make big or small fabrications on the job with this lightweight and portable tool! The versatile Mini Brake produces bends up to 135 degrees in sheet metals, including aluminum, copper and 22-gauge galvanized steel. The brake's compact size can accommodate sheet metal stock up to 4-feet wide, in any length, because there is no fixed throat depth to contend with. Use the Mini Brake anywhere on the job site, even on a truck tailgate, for a variety of fabricating tasks from large HVAC transitions to narrow roof flashing to structures as small as a 4-inch square. Strengthening ribs on the brake's anvil and apron ensure consistent bends. A safety- conscious, cam-over style clamping mechanism, similar to much larger shop- floor brakes, keeps the anvil secure in any position. Optional legs are available separately. From the Manufacturer Malco's new Mini Brake is lightweight and compact, but it can do a heavy-duty job. Ideal for fabricating plenums and large transitions at the job site, the Malco Mini Brake easily makes bends up to 135 degrees in galvanized sheet metal up to 22 gauge. It can accommodate sheet metal up to 4 feet wide and any length because there is no fixed throat depth to contend with. The Mini Brake is also capable of making compact fabrications as small as a 4-inch square. Strengthening ribs on the brakes's anvil and apron assure consistent, tightly formed bends. A safety- conscious, cam-over style clamping mechanism, similar to much larger brakes, keeps the anvil secure in any position. At only 58 pounds net-weight the Mini Brake is easy to transport. Its compact size is suitable for use virtually anywhere on the job-site. Extra-wide bases offer stability even when operating on a truck tailgate. Optional legs are sold separately and are easily installed on site. The portable Malco Mini Brake is truly a breakthrough product for busy professionals.

  • Built tough
Pattern Name: Utility Jack
Great tool for bending metal and fabricating flashing and other things. Built tough, not for the weak. It's heavy but it's stable and it works as intended. I registered my unit for the warranty period and received a very nice catalog and welcome pack to the Malco family. After having to fight with other manufacturers over trivial items this was a pleasant surprise. Great company and great tools. Glad I finally bought this. ... show more

  • Excellent tool, heavy duty for a portable brake and good price
Pattern Name: Utility Jack
The media could not be loaded. Excellent tool, heavy duty for a portable brake and good price for a DIY giy. It's 4' so obviously cross breaks have to be less than 4'. I ripped 22 gauge to 42" and built all the ducts I needed. End caps aren't a problem if you bend opposite sides then flatten just 3" with seemers, for the other two folds. the prefold will easily bend back up. Lastly, there's no instructions on how to align or calibrate for an even right fold. It's simple: using two half inch wrenches secure the head of the bolt and loosen the nut to open the gap, tighten it to close it. Cheers. Good luck ... show more

  • This break is very portable
Pattern Name: Utility Jack
First of all this is not a $5,000.00 break. That being said this break is great, very portable and bends 30 gage sheet metal with ease. I’m an HVAC contractor and this break goes on every job now. Would recommend to anyone that needs to make custom duct or sheet metal.

  • Needed a 4’ brake to make 4’ long straight duct.
Pattern Name: Utility Jack
You cannot break a half joint with a 1 inch flange on one end. There is not a notch out on the corner or things to slide into the break.. do you have to make duct in four pieces with a 1 inch break on the end of the duct or break the 1 inch flange by hand. Overall, I love it. Perfect for light duty duct work. Refer to YouTube hand Pittsburgh’s for straight duct. ... show more

  • It lacks much to be desired.
Pattern Name: Utility Jack
I really was hoping for better results with the use of this mini brake. I spend the better part of 4 hours trying to get it to work properly to an acceptable result with what i was making. Gate and fence caps out of 28 gauge copper with a 5/16 90 degrees bend edge. Really, it has been not good. First the main metal beam of the machine was deflected down by 1/16 (not straight), Second the clamp bar, does clamps both ends but not the center, adjusting it makes it a strong 5/16 bend at center making your edge runs not true what you want.. Also very frustrating that the clamping mechanism is a pain to deal with because it is a system that is not true to a straight press down and more a slide clamp down mechanism making the material most of the time to loose the intended bend point. not arguing that it can not bend, it does, but not a good machine or system for short edges bend. As being made in America, at best it pairs, feels and looks chinese. ... show more

  • An Average Sheet Metal Brake
Pattern Name: Utility Jack
The Malco MB48A sheet metal brake is "light and portable" relative to stationary shop equipment, but it weighs about 58 lbs. It isn't anything you would enjoy carrying up a flight of stairs and it doesn't have carrying handles. The two feet that the brake rests upon slide in and out of the body of the brake. There are bolt-on clamps that you can attach to keep them captured to the body of the brake. The most troublesome aspect of the brake is the bolts that hold the handles for the clamping bar (the handles with the black grips in the photo). The threaded part of these bolts is too short and I find that the nuts tend to work their way off these bolts. These nuts have the plastic type of lock ring in them, but not enough threads of the bolt go through it. These are specialty bolts that have one section of the shaft that is oval in cross section instead of round, so you can't replace them with ordinary bolts. A bad feature of the design is that these bolts restrict how far you can rotate the clamp away from the work. The maximum clearance that you can get between the base of the brake and the clamp is about 7/16 ths of an inch. If the heads of the bolts weren't in the way, you could swing it to get over an inch of clearance. The 7/16 ths clearance is fine if you are making bends only one way on a sheet of metal. If you are bending something that has bends both ways or has ribs, you'll wish you had more clearance. The clamping bar on this brake works very well and exerts even pressure all along the 4 ft span of the bed. It would be nice if you could lock the clamping bar open while you are inserting sheet metal into the brake, but there is no such lock. The brake has no indicator to show what angle you are making with your bends. I rate this tool as three stars out of five to indicate that it is an average sheet metal brake. (It may be a better than average deal, depending on your requirements and its current price.) ... show more
