Description

The Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Plate Joiner (model XJP03Z, tool only) provides portability and performance in the field or in the shop -- without the cord. The XJP03Z combines power and precision with ease-of-use features for strong and accurate biscuit joints for furniture making, cabinet construction and fine woodworking applications. (note: battery and charger sold separately). For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18V LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside. The XJP03Z provides up to 320 cuts or 160 joints on a single charge (18V LXT 3.0Ah battery, sold separately) . The rack-and-pinion vertical fence system is engineered for accurate fence adjustments, and the cast aluminum pivot fence has three positive stops at 0 degrees, 45 degrees, and 90 degrees. The blade diameter is 4 inches, and there are six depth settings with one-touch stops for the most common biscuit sizes including 0, 10 and 20.

  • One LOUD tool.
Holy hell this thing is LOUD! Your ears will ring louder than being at a deep purple concert, in the front row at the London Rainbow Theatre. My fault for not wearing ear protection. Also keep your hand all the way back by the battery or all else fails. Uncomfortable. Did I mention it was LOUD! I love makita tools, have most of em. This one is just ok not thrilled. ... show more

  • Excellent Tool
I'm using it for a slightly different than intended purpose - installing decks using Tiger Claw hidden fasteners. I buy decking that already has the prerequisite grooves milled along the long edges to engage with the hidden fasteners. But for ends - especially ends cut at angles to create patterns in the deck - where fasteners are required - I had been using a router with slot cutters from Tiger Claw. This biscuit jointer accomplishes the same task - is easier and safer to use in the field - and strong enough for a whole day of work on Ipe or composites. Maybe I'll get around to trying it out for its intended purpose - but its excellent for what I'm using it for. Makita says it was assembled in the USA - and the build quality seems excellent.. ... show more

  • Best quality plate joiner for this price range
This is no lamello, but at a fraction of the price, it gets the job done just as well. For those that like to point out the precision machining evident on the lamello, just remember this is just a plate joiner. This is a tool used by woodworkers to align boards for glue ups. The cordless feature is amazing. With a 5amp battery pack, it has enough power for any job. ... show more

  • Works great
I am in the process of replacing most of all my tools, and have chosen to switch to Makita. I just bought the this joiner, an AWS miter saw, AWS track saw, and AWS dust extractor. This biscuit joiner has plenty of power. I couldn’t be happier EXCEPT one huge frustration. I bought into the system for the Bluetooth connection between the dust extractor and the miter and track saw. What I found was an unintuitive mismatch of dust port sizes. Each tool has a different size port, and the adapters are just not user friendly. What a ridiculous waste of an otherwise convenient system. If you plan to stick with the dustbag that comes with the joiner, this will serve you as a five star product. ... show more

  • Battery life is not great at all. Dust port & bag is seriously flawed. Wish I'd bought corded.
I own a sizeable collection of Makita tools, and this biscuit joiner is the biggest disappointment of all of them. Battery life is inadequate; I can get 20 or so joints cut before either of the 2 batteries gives out. Fortunately I have a slew of Makita batteries, but I feel like I'm at the firing range. Pop, pop, pop, eject battery, slap in a new one, pop pop pop. I have to go pretty slow even with soft wood and MDF or it will bog and give me the red light. Disappointment #2: the dust port into the dust bag clogs easily after maybe 5 to 10 cuts, and is difficult to slide the plastic pinch keeper off the bag, shake it out, and reclose it with the keeper. It really should be a zipper. I ended up ditching the bag and fabbing up a connection to a Festool vac which keeps it perfectly clean now. All in all, I regret not buying a corded tool. The convenience of cordless is significantly outweighed by the low power and clogging dust bag. ... show more

  • Great in a lot of ways but
I bought this along with some PVC biscuits to use on exterior trim and miters on decks. I have an old corded porter cable that has treated me very well, but it's lacking. There wasn't any dust control, so this bag is an upgrade. The height adjustment on my PC requires an Allen wrench and a combination square. Now I almost never have to change it, but the rack and pinion system is absolutely amazing. The makita also has some rubber bumpers to hold to the material which are really nice. The only thing I don't love is the handle and the power on/off. I have normal size 6' man hands and the ergonomics could be improved. The top handle is pretty superficial, I'll be taking it off. My PC has a handle type grip and a trigger and it's just easier to push. With that said, this makita will most likely be hanging off my belt time to time, so the straight grip design will probably be less bulky in that case, but I'd still prefer more of a handle and trigger to the barrel grip and on switch. If makita comes out with an 18v brushless model with a trigger and handle I'd pay another hundred for it. All in all, I'm very happy with this. ... show more

  • really like it
Had a project where I had to cut precision slots for hanging door with lamello hinges. Made a jig to attach to door frame and support the tool while cutting the hinge slots. Worked well. This joiner does not pull at all. My old (heavy) porter-cable joiner pulled hard on start-up. I couldn't believe it at first - but check it out. Start the tool on the bench and it just sits there - no pull at all. One note is you should make reference cuts and take out the removable rubber bumpers if you need to do precice milling. The manual says the blade center is 10mm but I found it to be 9.65 mm. The plunge stops were not calibrated to spec, perhaps compensating for the removable rubber bumpers. This is a one screw adjustment for all stops; calibrate one, and the rest follow. Nice that you can measure and calibrate everything with the battery out, which makes the tool considerably lighter and easy to handle. I also used it to cut door wedge blocks by standing it on the battery and pushing down the work. A bit dangerous but worked well in a pinch (I forgot to bring a hand saw). Watch those fingers as always! ... show more

  • Amazing
Wow this is a really nice tool and having it cordless is one less thing to deal with, I already had the LXT drill and charger and even the 2 mh battery works great. The dust collector is also flawless, this is the unit to get if you use Makita LXT tools, no brainer
