These were exactly 2x2. I needed 1.5x1.5 finished size and my hardwood dealer carries 1.5x1.5 kinda rough or 3x variable width rough. That's just a lot of paid for sawdust in the bin. This worked out fine for soon-to-be end table legs.

I bought these to see if they match the 1" thick 15" x 80" mahogany board I bought to make a new set of washboards for my sailboat. They seem like a good match, so I guess that mahogany, which I was told is Honduran mahogany, is the same as this "African" mahogany. They seem to be just as hard and a good match in color, smell, and grain to that chocolate colored board. I'll be varnishing my washboards, so I'll varnish one or two of these 2" x 2" x 6" pieces at the same time, and post some photos. I figured I would be able to use these four bits of wood as spacers or blocks to lay stuff on or hold something up. I'm sure they'll come in handy in a lot of ways, as will the off-cuts from the board I used to make my new washboards. ... show more

Quality wood, true 2x2 dimensions. (Not like big box hardware stores where 2 inches is 1.75) The sanding on the outside is more rough in some spots than others. This is not a problem for wood turning as it will all get shaved off. If you wanted to use these for a function other than wood turning, you will need to plane or sand the surfaces. Again, this is not a problem for wood turning which is the advertised purpose. Have ordered the Mahogany and the Walnut so far for projects and are as described. ... show more

I received 4 good quality pieces of Mahogony square at the ends. Great for hand carving and woodworking, which is what I do, but these would be good for turning on a power lathe as well. Very pleased. I have some flat plane little critters will look good in this wood. :)
