I ordered a few of these because they were red and was disappointed when they weren't. Like the other review said "faded kidney bean color", it's like a reddish brown/orange (see pic). Maybe not a deal breaker for some but I have a color scheme setup in my studio and my OCD started screaming. As for the cable, I love the black metal connectors and the heavy duty feel of the cable. These have gold plated contacts where others look and feel like tin. They feel heavy duty because of the inner cotton braid. Other similarly priced cables only have a string inside and although those cables claim they have 21 gauge wiring, they measure 28 gauge and the cables are super flimsy feeling (other cables). These are as advertised. Just wish the color was red. I ordered some of the short whips just for the ends. Update about the cable quality: This is quality cable. The red and white wire is double insulated, each having its own additional, black, stiff insulation over the colored jacket. Those are then braided over with yarn for dampening. All that is then braided over with the copper ground shield (like tv coax cable). A lot of the other brand cables just have the ground loosely twisted and the other wires loose and flimsy inside the jacket with a few strings alongside all the wires together. I gig. I don't use these in a home studio. I have 5 of these 2 green (one 30' one 15) 1 red (30') 1 yellow (30') and one blue (30'). They sound fine. Sound is not the reason for my rating. What I've learned is that these would be great for a home studio where you occasionally need to troubleshoot or you have folks coming in and out and just plugging in to your fully set up system. But for gigging these are awful. Every time I set up I uncoil the cables I carefully coiled after the last gig. I even plug the XLR ends together to prevent tangling in transit. But every time I try to uncoil these they just keep tangling on themselves. And they twist internally so no amount of straightening and untwisting gets them to relax properly. It is maddening when trying to set up. I noticed it a bit with the green but thought maybe I was just too rough on it and promised myself I'd be very gentle with the red yellow and blue but that was not the problem and I wasted my time and money on these. I've used tons of XLR cables over the years from well-known brands like Whirlwind and Peavey. I've also, like everyone who has found themselves in a pinch for a cable, used some no-name, generic XLR's. Before picking up this Lyx Pro cable, I would've told you Peavey cables were easily the best I've used. Now that I've used this cable, I'm not sure anymore. The first thing I did was plug the cable into a variety of microphones. No matter which mic I tried, the connectors felt *very* solid and weren't loose at all. The Lyx Pro connectors are, without a doubt, the most solid-feeling connectors I've ever used, and I know I'm not going to need any gaffer's tape on the top of the connector to make the connection to the mic feels secure. The cable itself is of excellent quality and feels nice. It does kink a bit if you're using it in while moving back and forth in a confined area, but I've not noticed any of these problems when I used the cable in a larger space. Overall, these are excellent cables, and I would not hesitate to buy them again or recommend them to anyone. ... show more

    • Excellent Cables, Will Pay Twice The Price If The Market Forces It!

These are great cables. I have purchased approximately 35 of these cables in various lengths and configurations (straight xlr, right angle xlr, trs to xlr male, trs to xlr female, 10|20|30|50|100 ft lengths) and they have yet to disappoint. I use these on the road for live sound and use on average 22 of the cables for each show and so far they have performed flawlessly with no issues. So far, they have been used on about 80 live shows and have been tossed around, stepped on, and dragged through endless puddles of on-stage spilt alcohol; additionally, I even had to wash a pile of them (yes, actually hosed them down with a garden hose) after a rain storm ripped through an outside event and the cables were dragged through the mud during a chaotic stage tear down. We had 20 and 25-foot XLR cables for our 4-mic system, but really only needed...about 6 feet. These were perfect: 6 feet including the connectors. They are difficult to tangle as the jackets allow for flexibility. The first orange cable we received was torn in spots - bare wire exposed - and the connectors looked like they had been run over by a truck. We received a replacement that was perfect. Also, all of these cables come packaged inside a plastic zip-locked bag. But the first bad one was missing the bag. I suspect it was a warehouse/storage issue and had nothing to do with LyxPro. ALL of the other 5 cables - 4 colored for mics and 2 for speakers - were prefect. Not sure, but our mixer and speakers allow us to up the volume a bit without overloading. It could be a result of the cables! So far, so great. We've only used them once so far, so durability is to be determined, but I'm betting they're going to last for years. The fit is slightly tight, but in my opinion, that makes them more stable. I would highly recommend these as an alternative to the more expensive ones on the market. ... show more
