  • Classic boot, good support, updated design
Size: 11 Wide Color: Sepia/Black
I have more than one pair of these boots and am very happy I found them. They are a backpacking boot, providing more support than a typical hiking boot, which works well for the mixed trail/scrambling I enjoy. Yes they are stiffer and a bit heavier than a typical hiking boot. But, with a good insole and laced correctly, they stay comfortable all day long on difficult terrain and will leave your feet in good enough shape for the next day as well. I will also wear these to the office some days, just laced a bit looser. There does not appear to be a break-in period (which is good because backpacking class boots will break your feet instead of breaking in the boot). The wide sizes are not something you will find available from many other manufacturers. So if you have wide feet, Lowa may be your home for a good boot fit. There have been improvements to the design details over the 4 years I've been wearing this model of boot. Nice to see the manufacturer tweaking the product better. Downsides: I have worn out the sole, and had it replaced, on one pair of these boots that I wore daily for a couple of years. Still have that pair of boots as a backup. Haven't settled on a water resistant treatment I really like. The heels of the soles tend to slide when descending slippery clay (not sure anything else would do better, but this boot allows so much control in every other situation). Bring your own insole if you have high arches. Correct lacing is important. The bottom section, which should be just barely snugged is isolated from the top section. That top section should be kept snug enough to prevent the boot from sliding on your foot, but with slightly looser at the top so you can rotate your foot through your stride. The centering lug on the tongue is used to center and to lift the tongue. So as you lace around it, you should be lifting it. ... show more

  • Best boots ive ever owned. Sizing consistent with your normal shoes
Size: 11 Color: Sepia/Black
Easily the best boot I've ever owned, a bit spendy, but sooo worth it. I use them to hunt pheasant, deer, and bear in pretty much any terrain and temperature available in southwestern pennsylvania. They are not insulated so I wear wool socks if it is going to be below 20°f. The only time my feet got cold was a few weeks ago, and the temperature was below 0, I think this could have easily been solved with a second pair of socks. They are now 2 years old with no noticeable signs of wear (I only wear them for hunting or hiking maybe 40 times a year). I truly believe these boots will last me 10-15 years, which makes them quite cost effective really. If you have friends like mine, and witness them spending 200 ish bucks on boots every other year, sometimes more due to leaks and such, I think you would agree...money well spent ... show more

  • what needs to be said about these boots that hasnt been said already?
Size: 14 Wide Color: Sepia/Black
OK where to start with these boots that has not been said already. So many people have done reviews on their backpacking sites and all over the internet. ill share my experience with these guys. for starters the it out of the box was SNUG. I have a 14 W foot and these were just a bit tight on my pinky toes. However, after about 10-15 miles in these boots they are pretty comfortable. I got these boots for hiking the AT....now I am not sure these were the best boots for that because they are HEAVY. these are like the work boots of hiking boots. I will say that i love them for hunting. These are really for off trail or rough terrain. For the day hiker or easy trail user these are OVERKILL to the maximum. Under a heavy hunting pack at elevation these are what you want, no wonder they are the official hunting boot of New Zealand. I would say that these are more geared toward hunting than hiking. But i can see the merits for both. I had planed to use these in South Africa for hiking but now I am considering just using some trail runners due to the weight. I don't want to pack them because they are big and i wouldn't want to travel (fly) in them because of the bulk. The GTX is warm and keeps my feet dry from outside moisture. But my feet tend to sweat a bit in these boots even in cold 20-30f weather. the lacing system is awesome. That mid way up locking cam is awesome. I find that i had to use lacing techniques with older/other boots that would leave the toe box loose and tighten down the mid ankle to the top of the boot to keep my heel in place and lock the boot on my foot. With that locking cam i can keep the toe box to my liking and really wrench down the upper without having to do any silly knots or lacing techniques. the tounge stud is a nice addition too which helps keep it from sliding around and helps me with lacing tightly at the top. the soles are STIFF AF. i have found that on flat ground its almost annoying but once you get off pavement and on the trail (or off trail into the deep woods) this is exactly what you want under foot. Great for ascents and descents, loose shale, sharp rocks, and overall rough terrine ... show more

  • Great Boots
Size: 10.5 Color: Sepia/Black
I don’t usually take the time to do this, but I’m impressed enough with these boots that I felt compelled to write a review. After a lot of research, I chose these Lowas. It was a great decision. Right out of the box, they were incredibly comfortable and required no break in period. My wife gave me a hard time because I wore them around the house like they were slippers. After having worn them on several moderate hikes over a variety of terrain and spending time hunting in them, they still feel incredible. Excellent support and grip! Only time will tell if they will last, but for now, these are the most comfortable boots I’ve ever owned. ... show more
