  • Best purchase for my baby yet.
We have done a lot of different beds for my little one. When she was small 0-5 months she slept in a baby hammock made in Hawaii. We LOVED it and it was the best thing for her age. We tried a few nights in a cosleeper (both in bed and one attached to the bed) both were not good for my heavy-sleeping husband and neither provided much safety. If you really want a cosleeping bed, get a crib that can go level with your mattress. When she transitioned to a crib, she had no problem sleeping but we had problems with using bumpers. We were concerned for the breathability of it, so we tried the mesh liner that is popular and available everywhere. She would toss and turn and whack her head on the crib rails. So we put the bumper on. We never saw a problem with breathability or suffocation risk (although i was super panicked and check in on her at night numerous times) but eventually she learned to climb so off went the bumper again. This time we saw her little limbs stuck through the rails. Horribly upsetting. So we put her in a traditional pack-n-play by Graco. The bottom is off the ground and for whatever reason, she could not/would not sleep in it. Then we tried the Pea in the Pod travel bed we used on a few trips. Although there are many perks, she eventually got freaked out to be in a confined area that wouldn't allow her to stand up. ...So here we are on bed number 100 and the minute she got into this she was fine and slept like a dream. Back to her early days of 12 hours a night. Yes, seriously that long. So in a nutshell... 1. Set up took under 3 minutes 2. It really is lightweight (good for older parents, grandparents, going to/fro upstairs or outside and back) 3. Montessori friendly with the zipper that means eventually we can leave it open and have our lil one crawl in and out at will. 4. on the ground (sturdy, no walking problems, also she won't be climbing over, just walk out of it) 5. the conversion to future bassinet for my next one is a great option 6. large bed area 7. mesh sides- no suffocation risk and no limbs caught in slots between crib bars. 8. fits in her travel luggage on a plane and also can work as a backpack carry-on if we want to not check it in. 9. the set up is easy with the moon star images that squeeze together. I gave away a packnplay this morning and tried showing them how to set it up. it took over 10 minutes. i seriously hate those things. i wanted a 4moms but i could justify the extra $ at the time. My only eh part is that yet again i have to accommodate the mattress crib linens. I don't want a standard sheet so I am going to retrofit an existing one and create button hole enclosures to go around the velcro tabs that secure the mattress to the crib mesh bottom. Also, one velcro tab came off within seconds of me pulling lightly on it. ****Update:: do NOT put this in the main luggage compartment on an airplane. Our bag ripped and cut through the netting of the bed. I sewed it up and on the return flight we just carried it on(along with way too many baby things. :) Update three years later: here we are using this on baby number three as the main bed. NO2 had horrible sleep issues from her crib from 0-16 months and I was so sleep deprived I somehow forgot to just put her in this. Within 1 night she went from waking 10plus times a night to sleeping through the night. Within a week she was at 11 hours straight. We moved it out to the nursery for our baby No3 and thought we could have No2 just adjust to her toddler bed...nope. So we bought a second one of these with the bassinet attachment. this is by far the best baby item purchase we have made in 4 years. I still wish the bedding was normal size as I resort to custom made ones from etsy. I don't think the standards work as well as I'd like but I probably should have tried those sheet clips that can stretch and clip on under a mattress. Anyhow... Definitely still love this crib. ... show more

  • No cons - this is a fabulous product.
I wanted to add to the reviews as they were very helpful to me as I made my decision. I am a third time mom and I agonized over this decision because it's expensive and I wanted to make sure it was worth it. I just received my Lotus crib! Ordered from Amazon. LOVE IT! It did take me a minute for me to figure out how to close it down - but now that I know how it’s a cinch!! Like many, I was debating between the Baby Bjorn and the Lotus. I’m so glad I trusted my gut and went with the Lotus. All of the concerns raised on these reviews that gave me pause seem not important and/or I disagree with them now that I've used it. The concerns that made me pause: 1. Velcro on mattress difficult to put into place: The velcro on the mattress is super easy to install and I’m so happy to have it there. As a third time mom, I know that curious littles will find a way to take apart anything. Taking a minute (literally a minute) to secure the mattress is worth it in my book and I'm happy to have it there. 2. Mattress uncomfortable/too thin: I think the mattress is plenty soft. I am planning to get the quilted cover which I’m sure will make it super comfy for my little guy. 3. Fabric on railing might pull: Ehh, maybe. But it’s much softer than I expected it to be. Very pleased with overall quality. And all the pluses WAY out way the concerns (which again, I think are petty). Pluses: 1. Can be carry-on luggage on an airplane! You really can't get around this one. NONE of the other competitors can do this unless you're looking at the PeaPod. I just prefer the idea of an actual crib. 2. Can be worn on my back! So light weight and easy! 3. Has the awesome sun shade attachment. (I don’t have this yet, but plan to order. Wanted to be sure I was keeping it). I imagine popping this up at the pool all summer long. 4. The zippered side!!! People also commented that this might be too “loud”. I thankfully have a good sleeper…and I have had a light sleeper. I still would prefer to have the zipper option. He loved crawling in and out as I introduced him to the crib! 5. Too tall to lay baby down from the top. I am barely 5 foot tall. I have a bad back. This is not a concern. I can get him all the way down to the mattress no problem. And...you have the zipper if you need it. 5. Designed in America by a small business. SO thrilled to support!! Only thing better would be made in America. ... show more

  • Best Playard and Travel Crib in One!
This was the fourth playard that I tried out, and it's by far the best. I wanted something that I could invest in, and that would fit all our needs, and the Lotus definitely fits the bill. To give a quick recap on our playard journey (because yes, it was a journey...) - Originally purchased a Graco pack 'n play with a changing table and bassinet. I wanted something that could be used for travel, and the Graco was SO heavy that I couldn't imagine hauling it back and forth when I could just change the baby on the floor or bed. - Next was the Summer Infant Pop 'n Play, which was awesome for a playard. It's lightweight, easy to take down/pop up, and remarkably light. Only problem was the base was so thin that it couldn't be used as a travel crib. - We have a very active baby, so the Joovy Room2 was our next stop. It was great -- sturdy, comfy mattress, easy to setup/take down, and very modern design. But after taking it on a trip we realized that it's really tough to fit in a room due to the square design. - FINALLY I went for the Lotus and it's a keeper! Setup is a breeze, and it's so lightweight that it's easy to move around in our small house. The mattress is very plush, and can definitely be used for sleeping when we travel. My son likes to sleep right up against the side, so it's a relief that he's surrounded by mesh (which also give when he topples over). The best part though is the zipper side. We zip it up when we need to keep him contained, and leave it open when he needs some extra room to crawl around. It's also nice that I can sit beside him and play along with him, but keep him off the dusty floor. And travel is a breeze as it weighs nothing and folds up beautifully into a backpack. Only downside is I wish I had purchased the Lotus sooner! ... show more
