  • great game!

great game and looks great but can be very hard at times.

  • Looking forward to a sequel.
Style: DE - PlayStation 5
Played it on PSN and wanted the physical deluxe version to play whenever I want. 3 separate endings multiple characters to choose from, what’s not to love. Level up early and the game is so much easier. Wish there was a compass/map though. Only downside.

  • Really Fun!
Style: SE - PlayStation 5
Ok, I was skeptical of the game. My track record for "good" souls-like games has been pretty bad. So when I saw this game for $20 on sale, I was cautiously optimistic. Booted the game up and I was pleasantly surprised. It's a fun game with a neat mechanic where you move back and forth between two different worlds as you traverse the game. Graphically, it looks pretty stellar. Not that I'm surprised anymore with where we are technology-wise. Gameplay is solid. Enemies have a bit too much HP, but that's a common complaint in most of my plays of more modern souls-likes. Part of the charm of these games was that you were on a similar playing field with all enemies. Now, you better be ready to make some perfect maneuvers or you're going to be toast. Enemy variety is a bit low. There's a handful of enemy types and they get reused with different "element" additions. It seems pretty common now. You have your normal enemy, the heavy, the ranged heavy, the shambling enemy, etc. They're just reskinned. Online play is pretty nonexistent. Don't expect a lot of other people playing with you. That said, the few times I got a friend in the game, it was a good time! And, they don't bug out immediately after you beat a boss so I ended up playing for a few hours with the same player. It was a ton of fun! ... show more

  • Good game for the price, great in co op.
Style: SE - PlayStation 5
Overall, Lords of the Fallen is a pretty average souls-like, and honestly the co-op is what carries the game for me. One of the biggest problems for me was the level design. A lot of areas look way too similar, which makes exploration confusing and sometimes frustrating. Honestly, the only thing that saved it was the lantern mechanic that helps guide you in the right direction. Even now, years after release, the game still has a lot of bugs. The NPCs weren’t very memorable, and after a while the enemies start feeling way too repetitive. Also, the amount of item mimics in this game is insanely annoying. I genuinely don’t understand why they used them so often. The bosses are kind of mixed. A few of them look really cool and are actually fun to fight, but most of them were just okay. One thing I did really like was the Umbral Realm mechanic. It’s probably the most unique part of the game and makes exploration more interesting. The co-op is easily the best feature though, especially because the second player can join for free. The cross-platform co-op also worked surprisingly well for us. I played on PlayStation while my wife played through Steam. Playing through the game together made the whole experience a lot more enjoyable. Honestly, I probably wouldn’t have played this game solo, but in co-op we had a genuinely good time with it. 7/10 Hopefully the sequel launches with fewer bugs, more enemy variety, and more interesting enemies overall. ... show more

  • On my 3rd playthrough
Style: SE - PlayStation 5
I bought this game after all these patches were introduced so I'm not sure how the game was when it was first released but can say in its current state, at least on PS5, the game runs flawlessly and have had 0 crashes in the 100+ hours I've put into it. The graphics are absolutely stunning and the gameplay is addicting, I absolutely love the combat, it's fluid and quick, it feels fleshed out and void of any clunky feeling Souls-like tend to have. There's a million things I can say about this game, it's literally my favorite Souls-like ever created, infact I enjoy it just as much as Dark Souls 3, which is my favorite Souls installment. If you enjoy the Souls-like genre, Lords of the Fallen 2023 is an absolute must have. The 2nd installment is already in full development and I honestly can't wait to see how this game evolves. They hit the recipe on the mail with this one, my only hope is that they don't start too far from where they are cause they've almost reached something perfect in my eyes. ... show more

  • Great Game Exceeded Expectations
Style: SE - PlayStation 5
Got this game when it was on sale after the 2.0 update and am so happy I did. The game is solid and scratches that Dark Souls itch. The gameplay is challenging but will be familiar for fans of From style games. I appreciate that the difficulty is still engaging, but not frustrating or exhausting. The lamp mechanic used to traverse between the two different realms is unique and leaves a lot of secrets to be discovered. The environments are engrossing and well detailed. The art direction is like a heavy metal album cover. The developers clearly put a lot of polish and hard work into the game. I highly recommend this game if you like Dark Souls or Dark Fantasy RPGs in general. Im very picky with modern games, but this one is checked all the boxes for me. First game in a while where I can’t wait to get off work and play. ... show more

  • Really fun game to scratch the Dark Souls itch.
Style: SE - PlayStation 5
I first tried this game when it released and I did not like it; however, over the last year, the game has seen plenty of updates and has had a lot of new content added. The game feels closest in gameplay and style to "Dark Souls 3." The game is beautiful and graphically impressive. The developers really nailed their art style and the world is extremely fun to explore. There are even in-game modifiers like "Randomized enemies/items" to make each playthrough unique, so even console player can have those kinds of experiences without the need for mods. My first playthrough took me ~40 hours to beat with me attempting to explore ever nook and cranny; I have gone on to platinum the game on PS5. I loved the game and would recommend it to anyone who wants to scratch the "Dark Souls" itch with a game not developed by FromSoftware. ... show more
