This canvas stretcher clamp works quite well for me. The construction is simple and strong which will make for a long-lasting tool. The only slight annoyance is the red handle covers can slip when pulling, but it's no issue when leveraging the canvas. I purchased a 48" by 48" painting from China in a roll . Made a frame and used this to pull it taught while I stapled it onto the frame. You tubed how to do it and this gismo worked great. First time a charm! No teeth to rip the canvas. Did not need to pull very hard yet canvas looks flat. Glad I purchased these large non teeth pliers. Worked well at a good price! I've seen ones smaller than this retailing for practically double the amount at my local art supply store. I'm taking a painting class, and I needed my own stretcher pliers so I could build my canvases at home instead of in the classroom. These were the perfect option! They made the job much easier. The handles aren't very comfortable per se, but it still feels nice and sturdy in my hand. If you're looking for a pair of stretcher pliers, I'd go with these ones! ... show more

It's a great tool but, remember not to pull your canvas too hard, (you can easily do) otherwise the canvas will tear.
