  • Fun, Addicting, Great Theme
Such a fun game! I heard about this game on Rahdo's Youtube Channel and knew I had to have it. It's not so heavy that I lose interest half-way through the game. Gameplay says 90 minutes on box - prepare for a bit longer if you are playing with the maximum 4 players for the first few times. I've played this game 3 times so far, each with different people than the last, so having to go through all the rules and different aspects of the game does take some time. I'm sure it'll get closer to that 90 minute mark the more I play with the same people. I love the theme of the game and the rules are very clear except a couple hotel guests have a marking on them that is not explained clearly - I put two and two together though, and figured out what it meant just from looking at a few of the other images on similar guest cards. Another complaint from friends is the long turn cycle between the first players' 1st and 2nd turns of each round... 1st player gets a token with a 1 and an 8 on it, 2nd player gets 2 and 7, 3rd player gets 3 and 6, and 4th player gets to take two turns in the round with 4 and 5. I really have no problem with this - it's only fair that the 4th player would get to go twice, and backwards from there, since 1st player gets 1st pick. Keep in mind - you could be waiting about 10 or so minutes between your 1st turn and your 2nd. Good thing about this though - your turn doesn't hinge on you being present during the other players' turns. I consider this as a nice break to stretch my legs or grab a snack. This game has so much return playability (I don't know another word for it) - I don't see myself getting tired of this game anytime soon. Hopefully this review was helpful! ... show more

  • Don't forget to keep the emperor happy!
This game is so much fun! Everything is dependent on your dice rolls, so there's always something you can do. Pretty easy to learn. playing time is decent, just depends on how quick you can decide what you're going to do. 10 out of 10 would buy again!

  • Peak Board Game
This is my second favorite board game of all time. I played it once 10 years ago, and then the Lord brought this game back to my mind. So I bought it, and I have no regrets.

  • Great game for medium weight gamers
This is a fun, medium weight game. See BGA.com. I have brought and taught this in our game meetup group. It's easy to teach. I'm willing to play this anytime.

  • Really Fun game
This is a really fun game. The rules are pretty simple to understand, I only played 2 player games so far and it moved pretty quickly. The components are nice, the boards are nice. I enjoy the artwork. It’s got some strategy, a little tactical with some luck mixed in. Overall it has been a fun game and glad we added it to our ever growing collection. ... show more

  • The perfect 2 player Mid-Heavy Euro game.
I'm not at all saying that this is bad at higher player counts. Quite contrary, its great. I will say that its slower at higher player counts and downtime between turns is a little on the long side, but as a 2 player game... YOU MUST OWN IT! This to me is the PERFECT weeknight board game for a couple who love euro strategy games. It's got everything I want in a game: -Engine building -Resource management -Dice drafting -Dripping with theme Specifically I'll focus on the last one for a second. Euro games get a bad rap for being theme-less, but I point to games like this and "Uh... have you played THIS???" This game is RIDICULOUSLY thematic. I will say that whoever owns this hotel is a psycho though. One turn there's no cake but there's coffee for days, next round there's 5 opportunities to hire new staff, but there's not a scrap of food in sight. If this were a real life hotel, wow, what a riot it would be to work there. Anyways, When I play this game I am just entrenched in the theme. I really feel like I'm managing quests in a hotel. Trying to make them happy and get them booked into my rooms to be successful. Bottom line, absolutely fantastic. A MUST OWN! ... show more

  • Quality of the cards are paper thin, but game is amazing
The quality is rated at 3 stars. The game itself is basically 5 stars because it’s amazing. So it averages out to 4 stars. I am all for eco-friendly in life, but not with board games. I know some people don’t care about it, but these cards are paper thin. This is perhaps the cheapest-feeling cards I’ve held in my hands that came from a mass-produced board game. So, I am pretty disappointed. I suspect earlier iterations of this game had higher quality cards though. Price-wise… if you haven’t already shopped around, I’ll save you the trouble and let you know this game rarely ever goes on sale. Not even once a year on any platforms. So, my advice is just buy it at full MSRP, bcs waiting 2 years to see it at $10 off was not worth the wait. On to the game review! This is a really good game. If you’re into the theme, it’s even better, because it is very thematic. There’s a lot of variety and a lot of things to think about (a lot of things to do), so things could feel quite tight. All your decisions make a difference, which is what I loved about this board game. It comes with 4 boards, where the backs of it have different placements of rooms. So your strategy will have to change with each board you pick. The different guests, the different servants, and different goal tiles will also change up how you play throughout each game. Of course, the roll of the dice will be a big factor on how you’ll need to change tactics each round as well. It all makes for a really amazing game all the time! I’d recommend watching a quick video on how to play, and then read the manual. The manual is easy to read though, but can be daunting to some people. Learning the game was actually quite easy for me, but I can’t say how easy it would be for you. I really loved the appendix of what every single card and tile does in the back of the manual! No guessing at all. Because every card is numbered, finding it in the appendix is so easy. I only refer to it when I need to. I wish more game creators did this. Like, yes, we’re not dumb ppl, but I HATE ambiguity and having to google online in the MIDDLE OF A GAME which can take 10+ min just to find the right answer. So yes, I love this appendix. You will undoubtedly have to refer to it in your first few games. This is best at 2 players if you don’t want any downtime. With more ppl, it will take a truly long time to play and a lot of idle sitting and waiting… you don’t have 3-4 hours to spare, do you? So 2 players is the sweet spot. Doable at 3. It is a lot of fun playing with an opponent(s), but this game also has a solo mode that you can print online from mautoma. It was made into an official solo mode in the game’s expansion (which is no longer made OR hasn’t been reprinted yet). You can google it to find it. The solo mode is good fun! I’ve personally played about 8 or 10 solo games of this already. Sometimes, back-to-back, because the game is so addicting. The solo is easy to handle. I can see why it was made into an official solo by the creators of this game. Sadly, after almost 2 dozen playthroughs, the game has felt samey. The outcomes with an experienced opponent would always land us within a few points of each other. Sometimes, strategy doesn’t matter, and the outcomes would be the same no matter which path we took. Although… there IS a clear strategy to win, which has also made this kind of a bore to play for me now. So I’m taking a break from it and hopefully in a year, I’ll forget and start playing it like I did the first day. I won’t reveal the strategy (which would take another 2 paragraphs to write), but if you played enough, you would see the strategy too. I still love the game, but I AM IN NEED OF THE EXPANSION, which is out of print currently. If you tried looking it up, the expansion (Let’s Waltz) costs anywhere from $150-$300. I wouldn’t even buy the expansion for $100. But a lot of ppl would. The creator needs to reprint the expansion! Please!! ... show more
