  • My teacher was impressed
My teacher was impressed with the quality of this flute considering its price. He couldn't believe I ordered it online without even trying it. He tried it before I told him the price and he didn't realize it was a beginner's flute. He thought it was an excellent choice for beginners after I told him its price! Great value for money! ... show more

  • You dont need the $400+ flute!!
I have to say...When my daughter signed up for Band I had no idea how much the instruments would cost. The day they got fitted for instruments I had my fingers crossed on the flute. I had no clue how expensive they all would be. She ended up getting assigned the flute but the rentals had been very expensive. I never realized the rentals had cost about $14.+ up a month and they went towards a $600 Flute. I started doing research online but it is very difficult to buy an instrument. I decided on this Flute from all the positive reviews. I have got to say, it is a beautiful flute. It arrived very quickly in a very hard case. It is extremely sturdy. The flute is lacking in the little marks to line it up in the correct way, but my daughter learned that very quickly in class. As far as I can tell, it is a wonderful flute. The teacher loved the gold tip and no one in class has the same flute. It plays beautifully. I cant play it at all but my daughter is learning amazing tunes on it. I cant believe how easy she is picking it up. If you are looking for a starter flute that is not hundreds of dollars, this flute is a great starter. I figure if she continues I can purchase a more expensive flute later but for now this is perfect! You wont go wrong with this item. ... show more

  • Head does not fit into the body properly.
Head does not fit into the body properly. Not on the orchestra's approved instrument list. Very difficult to create a good tone on this instrument. Very dissatisfied. Return window now closed. I'm screwed. :( UPDATE: Customer Service did ultimately contact me, and were super responsive! Without any prompting from me, they took the flute back and ultimately replaced it with an upgraded model. All at no cost! My daughter is extremely happy with her instrument, and it sounds wonderful! (Well as wonderful as a beginning 8-year old can allow...) ... show more

  • Just be prepared to visit music store once month to get it working properly
The flute is good looking but has many manufacturing flaws, quality is so bad that it won't play correctly without bring in the repair shop once a month. I am very close to throw in the trash. I bought this for my son to play in the school musical band, we had been renting a high end flute about a year so he is pretty fluent with the instrument (just to make sure not the player problem). Within a week or purchase, we have to bring in the shop for a repair, one of the keys did not sit tight, making incorrect note. About 2 months later, have to bring in again, this time some spring felt off. Now 2 and 1/2 month later, 3rd time in the shop, this time it won't even make any sound, major leaking problem and needs to be in the shop for 1-week repair and will cost at least $100 to repair. By the time you did all repairs, it probably costs just as much (or more) as the high end. Save your money and buy the high end one, you will regret buying this one. like I did. ... show more

  • Not as good as reviews suggest
We were impressed by all the 5-star ratings and hoped that this would be a great instrument for our 4th grader to start on. I had about 10 years of flute study (though have not played for awhile), and found it a struggle to get quality sound from the instrument--I would think it would be extremely frustrating for a total beginner. ... show more

  • Great Company, Just "ok" product.
I have had this flute for 3 months now and have played it nearly every day. The look and feel of it is great. The sound, however, is awful. It is pitched very sharp. To compensate, the head joint needs to be pulled out about an inch. With that adjustment, the weight of the flute becomes unstable and awkward. No amount of adjustment to the flute completely corrects tuning issues. The flute is not in tune with itself. High notes are always sharp and low notes are always flat. It is next to impossible to produce a clear sounding low note on this flute. Sad to say, but I didn't realize just how poor this flute was until I purchased a second flute. The second flute cost more than a thousand dollars more than this flute and has none of the issues that plague this flute. I don't like giving bad reviews, but please steer away from this flute. You'll be sorry. ********************************** I initially wrote the above review and gave this flute a low, one-star rating. Since then, however, I was contacted by Hyson Music. They read the review and were concerned that there was an unsatisfied customer. They said that they wanted to reach out to me and that, while this flute will not compare to a higher-end flute, I still should not have had the issues with the flute that I described above. They were extremely kind and professional. They asked me to return the flute so they could send a new flute in its place. The whole transaction took less than a week. The new flute does in fact function much better. The quality of the flute is just OK. ***** 5 stars for Hyson Music, the company. ... show more

  • Excellent value
I'm a 54 year old pianist that decided last year to take up the flute as a second instrument. Not being certain if I would really be interested in the long run, I did some research and decided on the LJ Hutchen as my first flute. I've had the flute a little over a year now and I'm very pleased. Not one problem and until recently I played this flute almost every day. The instrument was correctly regulated on receipt, all posts are mounted on ribs, the key action is still perfect, the pads are still in great shape and the finish is like new. I can't comment on repairs / adjustments because it hasn't needed any. I recently bought a Pearl 795RBE Coda for my move to an open hole flute. Considering that Pearl was 14+ times more expense than the LJ, the LJ holds up well in comparison. Highly recommended. ... show more
