These really protect from sun. Two things to note: on our various sized kayaks we did not need the additional kit because all the boats had either holes we popped the poles into or places already set for them. Set up two two minutes including drinking a cold La Croix. Also you turn turn them around so you get more shade in back or front. They survive winds.

I shopped around a bit prior to making this purchase. Other brands were cost prohibitive, at least in my own opinion, given the functionality of this product. It’s nice to keep the sun from beating down on you all day in a kayak, but lots of people get by with a hat and sunscreen, so it isn’t a necessity so much as a luxury. That said, I like it quite a lot. It’s a little difficult to take apart and stow back in the bag provided, because a few of the poles have a slight curvature at the end and also because the elastic tends to pull the pieces back together while you work on a different section. I wouldn’t try to disassemble it on the water, although you probably wouldn’t be tempted to do so unless caught in a nasty headwind, in which case the screen creates drag, forcing you to work harder. You need to have the type of boat with fishing rod holders behind the seating area, since this is where the ends of the poles fit. Otherwise, I would assume some modification would be in order, either to the product or to the boat itself. Everything considered, I paddled around all day in the sun without getting burned to a crisp. When the wind picked up, I removed it. I think I’ll appreciate having it as a part of my kayaking accessories kit, for bright sunny days on calm waters.

I LOVE THIS SHADE!!! As you can see I am a porcelain ginger so I need as much protection from the sun as possible and this is perfect! Super easy to set up and store on or off of your kayak . Also its flexible so if there are low hanging trees you can maneuver around them . One more thing it survived my flip!! I turned my yak over with this attached and it actually stayed , I am so pleased and recieved so many compliments while floating!

I bought two of these and two of the z-mount things. Almost $200 worth. It got boxed up to send back for return within 39 minutes of arrival. Why? MISSING INSTRUCTIONS!!! I have no clue how to install these and for $200, I don't think I should have to spend much effort figuring it out. I am so disappointed. I was planning to use them for kayaking this weekend. Instead, We will have to roast in the sun because these people couldn't brother to take the simple act of including some instructions for how to install and use their product. Way to go! I'll buy the Adventure Canopy version at twice the price.
