  • Specs and Details About this Nice Mower. Please Note: This is NOT to use as a walker for a child learning to walk.
Product Packaging: Frustration-Free Packaging
Wheels are hard plastic 4 inches in diameter. The top of the handle is 20 1/4 inches from the floor. So if you want to know if it's a good size for your child, have him hold his hands in front of him 20 inches above the ground and you will know. Made in China. We purchased the one in "frustration-free" packaging and we were happy with that. We just opened a brown box, and removed the items. No clear plastic shells or plastic straps to cut through, and no wires to untwist. It comes in a plain brown box that says Little Tikes in the corner on one side and Gas 'n Go Mower in the corner of the other side of the box, along with some contact information for Little Tikes. So if your child sees it arrive, he will have no idea what's inside unless he can read. It was very simple to put together - pop a few things into place, no tools required. The mower has several fun features for child: Up on the handle there is a plastic key that really turns but, fortunately, does not come off. So it won't get lost. There is a little handle that goes up and down (throttle?). It has a pull cord like a real lawn mower that makes a revving noise when you pull it, like the mower is really starting up. Of course, the revving noise does not continue once the cord retracts into the mower. But it sounds great for a few seconds, as though the child is really starting the mower. (This mower takes no batteries, and it is NOT a bubble blower. There are other mowers that blow bubbles, but his Daddy's mower doesn't blow bubbles, so we weren't looking for a child's mower to blow bubbles.) It has a little red gas can that sits snugly on the back of the mower in an indentation. There is a screw cap to open and "fill" the tank from the gas can. The cap is attached with a strip of plastic so it won't get lost, and takes only half a turn to open. (It is not a real tank, by the way, and would not actually hold liquid. There's just barely enough space in it to insert the nozzle of the pretend gas can. All in all, this mower is pretty realistic looking EXCEPT for the circular area on top that holds 8 very small colored balls under a clear plastic dome. (Think of the push popper toys on a handle where balls pop up and down making lots of noise.) Fortunately, this mower does NOT make that popping noise. The balls are very small and there are only 8 of them. The clear dome is not high and the balls barely pop up. What actually makes noise is this: There is a round white disk the balls are sitting on. Every time the wheels go around, that disk comes up just a little, so the sound the lawn mower will make as it is being pushed is more of a clickity clacking noise - not NEARLY as loud nor as annoying as those poppers on a stick. The balls did pop up just a little, but the sound was hardly noticeable. The clickity clack noise did not bother me at all, though it might after an hour of use!!! This mower has a lot of fun features to keep a child's interest. We bought this for a child who will soon be learning to walk. We thought he could use it as a "walker" to help him learn to walk. NOT SO. He immediately stood up and took hold of the handle, but it would not support him. As soon as he started to take a step, it started tipping over backwards, causing him to SIT quickly. He tried - and gave up - 3 times. It has a "back splash" on it that perhaps is supposed to keep it from tipping backwards, but it is totally ineffective with a pre-walking child who is using the mower to support himself as he learns to walk. This was a big disappointment, but since it says in the Product Information that it is for 18 month olds, I can't subtract a star for it. However, it also says in the Product Information that it is for children up to age 15 - yep I checked that three times. So I was hoping the beginning age was "off" just as the ending age is. (Amazon needs to correct that!) Bottom line, it is good for a child who is steady on his feet and already walking so he does not need the mower for support. I subtracted one star because it is hard to push in THICK grass, such as our floratam (St. Augustine). Even if the grass is fairly low (which it isn't if it needs mowed), the mower doesn't push through thick grass easily because it sits too low to the ground and the back splash thing also drags. We wanted this mower so the child could be outdoors mowing while his Daddy mows (on the opposite side of the yard from the real mower of course). "Mowing" the driveway just isn't the same. But we will still keep it for him to use later after he IS walking. It's well worth the $15 we paid for it, but I do wish it were raised a little more off the ground so it would be easier to push in thick grass and uneven ground. ... show more

  • Happy mower

Like no bubbles! No mess. Makes little popping noise when walks. Like the clicking knobs. Noise good for him and not overwhelming for adults. My 2y/o friend takes it inside and out and loves it! His parents love it more because he can walk in circles and be happier pushing it around.

Gift for 1 yr old Nephew - he loves it! Especially fascinated by the "popping grass" - using to learn to walk - no sticky residue like bubble mower! Even has cute removable gas can!

  • Great for toddlers and up!

I got this for a nephew. He's new to two and was on the cusp of walking. Since he's got an older brother which is 3, he's not quick to get up and move. He'll watch his brother going up, down and all around but wait till the coast is clear before trying to scoot. From the moment this toy was put together, my nephew was playing with the controls. Good thing he has an older brother to show him the ropes. The older one was yanking the cord while the younger one was turning the knobs. There was some small squabbling over who would get to run the mower first. The older one ran it all around the home for awhile before he was told to share it. Having this to push gave the birthday boy some confidence in walking. It was great to see the excitement he had in stabilizing himself while thinking, he's cleaning up the ground for us. This is almost always run on a wood floor. Since I gave this gift in the early fall, the kids were used to seeing the lawn care guy mowing their lawn. Every time they would see him, this toy would go zooming all around. Both the boys love it. During the holidays when having lots of kids of different ages over, there were many that wanted to yank the start cord or push and mow all around. The start cord has good tension strength so an adult could yank it also. Of course, don't yank it like a real mower. Both girls and boys played with this. It's a toy that doesn't require anything for use. ie batteries or power, yet offers hours of enjoyment. Putting the toy together took some finagling. There are parts that need to be adjusted together or shoved into the correct bracket. Also, there is a tag or cord that must be pulled out of a socket before use. Nothing too extreme. You can be up and running in about ten minutes with the right tools. I think a scissors and screwdriver is all that was needed. ... show more

Carton was crushed and I assumed the mower would be crushed, but it turned out to be ok thank goodness. Little Tikes products are the best. I was upset at first because I couldn’t TALK to seller but it all worked out eventually. I’m very pleased with item!
