The three major issues with this stand: 1. It's pathetically lightweight. Any tangle/snag pulls it over, even when fully loaded. This is because the thread guides are made from injection-molded plastic, and the interiors aren't sanded or smoothed like metal would be, allowing the thread to snag. 2. It's very unsteady. The thread pulls this around so you keep having to push it back/away from the work even if it doesn't fall over 3. It can't hold a standard spindle. The spindle holders aren't tall enough to hold more than the smallest spindles, but it's too thick to put on a spool. If you work with larger spindles, this thing is a major pain to keep the thread running at all, let alone smoothly. I do much of my sewing these days professionally creating unique pieces of art, typically without any standard patterns or guides. I made a single-thread stand from metal and epoxy. I'm expanding my area of operations and wanted at least three at once. This had no measurements, nor much detail in the description, but might have worked had it been larger, heavier and with taller supports and metal guides. I need much more sturdy and durable tools to accomplish that. This is neither, and wouldn't last through a full project. I wouldn't even recommend it for people starting out, because it's best to start out with something that WORKS. Since I'm a maker, I'll fill the base with a combination of epoxy and pewter ingots to increase the weight, add rubber footings so it doesn't slide, then replace the standing parts with wood dowels, and use a metal coat hanger to craft the thread guides. The metal won't wiggle nearly as much as the plastic does. In short, I'll use this to MAKE what I need, which will be substantially BETTER than this is. The only saving grace is that this was cheap enough to make sending it back the greater hassle than turning it into something that's actually useful to me. If you want to try your hand at improving it, the price isn't ridiculously high for that. Otherwise, keep looking for something that will work for any spindle, any circumstance and have it last more than a job or two. ... show more
