What an unexpected surprise!!! This kit was super easy to use. Once I unpacked it and READ THE INSTRUCTIONS, I was amazed at how easy, fast, and comfortable it was to use this great waxing system. I am a very light blonde female and for my first attempt, I was only going to do my sideburns, cheeks, mustache and eyebrows, so I used 1/2 pack of beads. I put the unit on a disposable chux pad, put the beads in the melting pot, put the cover on and turned the dial to the highest temp, as stated in the directions. I checked at 5 minutes and they weren’t melted enough, so I checked every minute to know when they were the right consistency. At 10 minutes they were perfect, a very few beads looked unchanged but with a little stir the wax was a thick, honey consistency. I lowered the temp to 140° and started. I did the temp test on my inner wrist to make sure it wasn’t too hot. I’ve waxed twice at home before, with the amber colored block of wax, but I’m by no means a pro. While the wax was melting I washed and dried my face, and used the Pre-Wax spray included with the kit. I applied the wax to clean, dry skin at the sideburns first. According to the directions, I applied the wax in the direction of the hair growth, in a THICK layer (about the thickness of a US nickel worked best for me) and waited until it was no longer tacky. I didn’t use the cloth strips, but if you do, you’d put it on top of the wax immediately after the wax is in place. After about 15 seconds, I lifted an edge and pulled away from the direction of hair growth and voilà! All hair gone in one shot!!! Any wax residue came off by either patting the used wax strip to the little bit left over or, the oily After Treatment spray will also help remove residual wax. Next I did eyebrows, checks and mustache, with plenty of wax leftover for the next use! There’s a very handy little drip bar across the top of the melting pot which helps to reduce mess from dripping wax. There was very little discomfort, even in those sensitive areas like sideburns and upper lip. I highly recommend this kit- easy to use, quality wax (much better than the amber wax), relatively pain free, completely self contained and cost effective. I’m really impressed with this little gadget, and if it only works once, it’s already paid for itself at $23.99! At a salon, eyebrows would have been $15, lip $10, sideburns and cheeks $25, not including a tip. It’s Absolutely worth trying it! It really is easy for a beginner and I’m looking forward to using it in other areas.

Feels luxe - I love the dial. The display is clear and easy to read. There is a little metal bar you can wipe excess product on. It doesn't feel cheap at all and I've used it 3-4 times and have been happy with it! I find it heats up quickly and evenly.

I wanted to love this! Waxing at home? Awesome! There is a bit of a learning curve, figuring out how to apply (AND remove) wax correctly... and, yes, you really DO have learn to do it the right way. You can not only mess up the wax process, but you can injure yourself. It is absolutely beneficial to study up and practice, if you're new to applying wax. (The most useful tutorials I was able to find are free on YouTube. Search: "Kristen mermaid wax tutorials" to find a whole host of videos that demonstrate everything from the benefits of using different types and brands of wax to correct application for various body regions. This pot does eventually heat up the wax, as long as you use the lid. No where near as quickly as advertised, but I can deal with remembering to turn it on early. So, not a deal breaker. The biggest issue I have is that the wax begins to cool QUICKLY the instant you take the lid off and start to stir. So, you really HAVE TO keep temp set on the highest setting throughout the whole process and replace the lid between strips. Once you've gathered the requisite wax to lay your strip, put that cover right back on. Otherwise, you'll find yourself needing to pause to re-warm the wax every 5-10 min. But, either way, this makes the process take a lot more time than you'd expect. I like the bar across the top of the bucket. That was actually the deciding factor for me... and it is useful. But it also gets in the way. I hesitate to complain about it getting in the way because I really can't think of another place to put it that would be convenient... the pot is just too small for it to be both useful and not an impediment. If I was choosing a warming pot all over again, I would absolutely go with a higher quality and larger pot. Something capable of keeping the wax warm longer & more room to wipe off access without making a hard-to- clean mess! If you're buying the kit for the sample wax, don't bother. It's truly awful for beginners. I literally ended up with torn skin... it's simply not elastic & pliable enough for an amateur to use easily. (I expect any pro would turn their nose up to it, too.... but can't confirm.) So: 1) No I wouldn't buy again. 2) It works well enough for my purposes, for now, but will be looking for a better pot sometime soon. 3) The wax is basically a useless free gift with purchase. (DEFINITELY DON'T BUY EXTRA!) 4) If this is in the higher end of your budget window and you're willing to sacrifice speed and convenience for the low price, go for it. If you can afford better, I would look further. 5) I'm in no way affiliated with Mermaid Wax or Kristen (or anyone in Texas, at all.) But, I do really like their products. I believe the offer a non-professional warmer on their website... you may want to check that out. And, if you want to try their wax, I recommend going with Electra. :) Happy waxing!
