  • Beautiful picture, very happy thus far.
Style: Tile/Height/Pivot
-EDIT- About 6 months in, and this is still a fabulous monitor, I couldn't be happier. It does everything well that I wanted it to do, and then some. Highly recommended. I like to read ebooks on my PC, so there are a few things that are important to me. 1) Picture quality. This monitor has a GREAT picture. 2) The monitor actually works. I had to send an AOC monitor back for refund prior to this one due to a permanent red line down the middle of the screen. So far so good with this one. 3) A "reader mode" to reduce blue light. Check. 4) High resolution. Check. 5) IPS display. Check. 6) I read comics too, so I need the monitor to rotate to "portrait" configuration. Check. 6) Height adjustable so I can put it on my monitor stand, and stand up when I want to. Check. All in all I'm very happy so far, assuming it doesn't fail like the AOC I just sent back. One odd design decision, in my opinion, is the base. It's a really wide arc of plastic, almost as wide as the monitor itself. It's not a problem, so I'm not taking a star off, but I would have preferred a more utilitarian, traditional base. The base actually sticks off the edge of my monitor stand a little. One added bonus is that you can turn off the stupid power LED on this one! Hurray! Man I got tired of my old monitor blinking at me all night. The OSD is nice, and the multiple "split screen" modes are something I've wanted for a long time. Oddly, the audio actually sounds better than the integrated sound from my motherboard. It's more clear, louder, etc. Overall, A+ so far. I really can't say enough about the picture quality. Fan-tastic. ... show more

  • Excellent monitor with super video quality
Style: Tile/Height/Pivot
Got this monitor when it was just released and I worried a little with only one review in Amazon. But I did find several good tech review over internet and decided to try it out. I had a three year old Acer 27" 2K TN monitor that I acquired with a good price and is happy about it. But I am eager to see how my hackingtosh works with 4K and am looking for a 4K monitor from time to time. I was a software engineer and don't use my computer for video or picture processing and don't play games. But this monitor does make me happy with all it can deliver. Control is just O.K. and it won't detect the input source automatically like my Acer. But I am impressed by this IPS screen presents. Vivid colors and nice details. It is highly recommended if you are looking for a 27" 4K IPS monitor for daily use. If you use desk arm, LG 27UL500W might be a much cheaper solution since the only difference is the monitor stand. ... show more

  • Honest gamer review
Style: Tile/Height/Pivot
I'll cut to the chase with this review. If you're a gamer, can run 4k at 60FPS, don't want to spend a fortune, this is the panel for you. You're not finding better for the price, unless there's a sale. I got this panel for $280 down from $400. Read this review. Here's the quick specs: 4K, 60hz, HDR, Freesync, 5ms GtG, IPS, 98% sRGB color range. You may be wondering how the UL550 compares to the 500, 600 and 650. They all have the same panel, except brightness. The 500 and 550 both are 300 nits in brightness, while the 600 and 650 can reach 400 nits. Truth be told, 300 is plenty bright enough, is above the average, and actually makes more sense. All 4 panels only hit 300 nits in HDR. The HDR400 on the Ul650 doesn't truly hit 400 nits, go look at reviews. Now for this monitor I tested it on an Xbox One X with HDR10, 4k and Freesync enabled. I played Modern Warfare, Blackout, various Rpgs, etc. The response rate and input lag is exceptionally low for an IPS. You will not feel the difference if you're coming from a TN panel, but you will notice how much nicer the image on this is. It's very impressive for IPS. The color range is almost 100%, so yeah, enough said on that. HDR is nice, it shows. For those that say you need 1000 nits to hit true HDR, that's true if you're looking at a TV which is supposed to be viewed from 6ft+ away. 1000 nits on a monitor right in front of you would screw your eyes up. I tested HDR on/off on various titles and the conclusion is, keep it on! If gaming on an FPS avoid the FPS preset. It sets the response rate to "faster" which is uneccesaey and kills some image quality. Instead use the custom feature, make sure the game response rate is on "fast", enable freesync, then enable it on your Xbox/PC. Leave the Backlight brightness as 100, contrast at 60-70, and sharpness at 40. Don't use super resolution, you don't need it if you're seeing 4k. Have a nice day. Enjoy the monitor, it's fantastic. ... show more
