TL;DR: I wanted to love this monitor, but after 10 days of dealing with half-screen color glitches, text sharpness issues, and a overheating issue where the fan went full speed and the unit shut itself down, I am returning it. I initially ordered this monitor directly from LG because of their free 2-year warranty and it was not available on Amazon. It arrived heavily damaged—likely FedEx's fault. FedEx also left the giant, clearly marked monitor box right in front of my door like a shopping mall display for anyone to steal. To make matters worse, LG only offers returns, not replacements. After getting a refund, I still wanted to give the monitor a try. I re-ordered it through Amazon. The delivery experience was much better, even requiring a secure PIN to receive it. Unfortunately, the hardware itself didn't live up to the hassle. Issue 1: The "Right-Half" Display Glitch (macOS) Immediately after unboxing and connecting my M5 Pro MacBook Pro, I noticed the right half of the screen looked like it had a dark filter over it. Dropping the refresh rate to 60Hz or rebooting the Mac temporarily fixed it, but it reoccurred a few days later. The Workaround: If you run into this on Mac, you can bypass it using the BetterDisplay app—go to Image Adjustment, toggle the quantization value back and forth, and the screen resets. Issue 2: Text Sharpness (The Right-Side Blur) Like many others have reported, the right-side text sharpness issue was present on my unit. To be fair, it wasn't a dealbreaker for me while coding, and a recent firmware update supposedly addresses it. However, the next issue made a firmware fix irrelevant. Issue 3: Overheating and Fan Noise Yesterday, after only an hour of normal use, the monitor began to overheat. The internal fan kicked on at full speed—loud enough to hear easily from a normal seating distance—and the monitor shut itself down to protect the hardware. For a premium display, this is unacceptable quality control. Beyond the hardware defects, the everyday performance just isn't there for productivity. Running normal desktop tasks or SDR content with HDR mode on looks horrible on both macOS and Windows. The local dimming algorithm for daily desktop use is incredibly distracting. It doesn't come close to the seamless mini-LED display on a MacBook Pro. So for normal desktop tasks, you have to turn off HDR & Local dimming, but at that point, what's the point of even getting this monitor? HDR Content: To give credit where it's due, watching HDR videos or playing HDR games looks absolutely incredible. If 100% of your time is spent playing HDR games or watching HDR content, this might be the best monitor for you. But for someone who spends 80% of their time working with SDR content, coding, it's a massive letdown. Don't believe the reviews claiming this is a budget-friendly alternative to a Studio Display XDR—it isn't even in the same league for text and office work. I wanted a 5K display with around 220ppi with a high refresh rate for my Macs, so I ordered two of these, hoping that it would be cheaper alternatives to the new Apple Studio Display XDR. I must say that I am very disappointed. The matt screen causes a significant amount of shimmer/glitter and color distortion if you are sitting 12-24 inches from the screen, and text is not as sharp as the Apple Studio Display. This is similar to the Asus ROG Strix 5K XG27JCG. It has become obvious that a matte coating is a terrible idea and only glossy coatings will provide true sharpness at this density of pixels. Second, the monitor had issues with USB-C connectivity when using a docking station, with monitor unable to detect a signal unless the cable was disconnected and reconnected. I have sent both monitors back for a refund, and have now ordered the glossy Kuycon P27Z 5K 180hz from China. ... show more

Received yesterday 5/11/26. Connected to a MacBook (using Thunderbolt / USB-C), work Linux (DisplayPort from NVIDIA 5070 TI), personal Linux and Windows (HDMI from NVIDIA 4080). Using 5k resolution everywhere. Mac and Windows both set the scaling to 200% automatically. Linux needed manual setttings. I think this is the only 5k 27" on the market right now that has HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 and also Thunderbolt. For my very complicated connectivity setup it was a must. I use this display mostly for productivity work - I'm a programmer, and stare at code all day, so text rendering quality is very important. For that, this display is amazing. The 5k resolution means I run it at 200% scale factor which makes text look much better than on a 4k display with 150% scale factor. I turned off "AI image optimization" because it dynamically changed color temperature and I didn't want that. In general, I find LG displays to have very good color calibration. I'm not a design professional but I do notice when the image is too warm or too cold. Brightness is very good, I actually turned it down a bit. I think 27 inch is the right size for a productivity display, a 32 means you have to move your head to take in the sides of the image. So at least for me, I prefer 27 inch. I have a second display which also 27 inch but 4k and that's the best setup for me. I also tried running games, and the results are somewhat mixed. Some games look amazing, some games have issues with HDR. I think most games are calibrated for HDR 400 / 600, and since this display is HDR 1000, some adjustments may be needed. Some games have bugs related to HDR. Some examples: AI Limit basically runs in SDR mode so you get a very dark picture (I ended up turning HDR off for this one), and Assasin's Creed Valhalla looks amazing in HDR with very deep darks and bright highlights. The display's 5k upscaler means I can run my games at 1440 and still get an amazingly sharp picture. Haven't noticed any issues with increased latency. The display is pretty heavy and build quality is solid. I'm still going to rate as 5 stars because my primary use case is productivity and for that use case, it's the best I've seen. If your primary use case is gaming, maybe I would recommend an HDR 600 display (my second display is like that, also from LG, and it works great). ... show more

I bought this monitor to compare with a Studio Display XDR nano texture, hoping to find something close in image quality and reflection handling but with multiple inputs and a drastically cheaper price (in lieu of heftier construction, built-in webcam, daisy chaining). The image displayed for a few seconds to a minute before turning to noise (like CRT snow) and the monitor became unresponsive to input and would not turn off without being disconnected from power. This occurred on every input - USB-C, DisplayPort, HDMI - on PC, Mac, and even a few times without any input. After several attempts I managed to get the firmware updated with the LG Switch app but the issue persisted. Since something was clearly defective, I don’t want to judge the image quality, though it seemed fairly close for the few seconds I was able to see it. I've been using this monitor with a MacBook Pro M2 Max and it's been great. The image quality is excellent and the brightness is seriously strong — more than enough for any environment, even with bright light on the desk. The 5K resolution is in a class of its own: text is razor-sharp, which makes it incredibly comfortable for programming — that's what I use it for most. It's also great for watching videos. One note on HDR: when you enable it, the monitor reserves dynamic range for HDR content, so the rest of the desktop looks a bit darker. This is normal behavior for any HDR monitor, not a defect — I just keep it in SDR for day-to-day work and switch HDR on only when I'm watching content that takes advantage of it. Connection was painless: plug-and-play over USB-C (and HDMI) with the Mac, no drivers or weird setup. It runs at 120Hz without any issues. As an affordable alternative to the Apple Studio Display, this is a purchase I'd recommend without hesitation. Same 5K resolution, at a fraction of the price. Update 1: As other reviewers have mentioned, the image quality on the right side of the screen appears degraded and jagged. Update 2: No feedback from LG. I returned the monitor. ... show more

I got mine last week. First thing I noticed was that the 1/4 of the LHS screen looked bluer than the RHS. Consider this is also LG TV money, this is not acceptible. Second thing I noticed was that the speaker or Audio out did not work with one of the HDMI ports. This is the deal breaker to me, just dismounted everything and returned. Also do know that this is a matte screen, if you want the Apple Studio Display quality, go buy that instead. The matte screen takes away the 5K. ... show more

Update: LG has released a firmware update that I'm please to say fixes the text rendering issue mentioned below. This update can be applied via the LG Switch app on PC or Mac. With that fix in place, this is now an excellent product and I have no other issues with the display on Mac or PC. I ordered a pair of these displays since they ticked every box for me: true 5K resolution for correct scaling on a Mac and PC; lots of ports; high refresh rate for gaming; Mini-LED for HDR content; and an IPS panel for crisp text in desktop use versus an OLED. For the most part, these are good monitors, without the significant blooming issues of previous gen LG mini-LED displays (although, there are some compromises in desktop use with vignetting around light areas). They're incredibly bright too, which is great for HDR. However, both of my monitors are experiencing the exact same issue mentioned in other reviews. The right hand side of the panel appears to be stuck at 100 percent sharpness versus the left. This causes the text on the right hand side to appear jagged. Setting the sharpness to 100 in the settings balances this out, but means that text looks jagged across the whole display. This suggests a firmware versus a hardware issue, but as they monitors are so new, LG hasn't communicated a cause or fix for this problem yet. If the problem gets resolved, this is a five star product. But as it stands, can only go with a three. Fingers crossed LG gets a fix out soon. ... show more
