I purchased this saxophone for my 11‑year‑old grandson, who had just joined his middle school band and was excited to start learning music. He opened the instrument immediately and began playing. The next day, he developed a headache, body aches, and a fever that continued to worsen. When his mom examined the saxophone—initially just admiring it—she discovered mold on the reed. After removing it and looking further, she found mold growing inside the neck of the saxophone as well. What we first assumed was the flu turned out to be a URI caused by mold exposure. As a result, my grandson missed an entire week of school and is still recovering. This situation is completely unacceptable. A used, unclean instrument should never be sold as new under any circumstances. Unfortunately my daughter threw the reed away and the mold is not photographic on the black lacquer. We have it for testing. Given the health impact and the misrepresentation of this product, I have requested, at the very least, a full refund immediately.
