Ordered it yesterday and it arrived in 1 day! Points for that of course. I'll update once this is done but I'm excited for it. The box itself is massive with 6800+ pieces. I won't lie, some of the excitement is nostalgia from playing red/blue as a kid when they first released.

This set was much, much bigger than I expected - as someone who is more used to builds in the <2000 piece ballpark, I simply wasn't prepared for just how large the box and the set would be. As always, Lego delivers in terms of quality and beauty, and this set was no exception - it's truly an exquisite set. That being said, the price point is one that I would never be able to accept - I just can't see myself (or many others) shelling out so much for a hobby item. This lego is pretty amazing. I say that with a house literally full of legos (and Pokemon). The gist is, Venusaur is a beautifully detailed build, with a very nice base, and seriously represents. Blastoise is, in my mind, a great active position, helps with the balance of the piece, and is again, a really unique and interesting build. Charizard, both of my son's favorites, seemed a bit small in my mind, but they absolutely loved it and thought it was very cool that its arms and wings moved. Is the price point high? Yes. Is it worth it? That's up to you, your budget, and interest. In my house, a place that we literally decorate with legos and use legos for art, and have children (and a full grown adult) raised on Pokemon, absolutely. Also, it took a LONG time for my husband and two children (9 and 11) to build this. They have been building legos since they could walk, and they were amazing by the depth and size of the piece. My husband ranked it right below Diagon Alley and tied with Rivendell when I really pushed him to compare it to one of our existing legos. It was above all the rest. Also, I know there is some talk about how they wished Lego hadn't included the base and just cut the price. I (as the person in the family least interested in Pokemon) really appreciate the bases. I think they make the piece look more like a work of art, and less like random lego Pokemon. It, to me, gives the piece the higher end quality, and more finished vibe. The piece is a focal point, a centerpiece in your home, far after the (very long) building adventure. For what it's worth, The packaging arrived perfectly. I know some people collect them and that is important. Photos included.     • Who is this for?
There is no doubt that this is a quality set. The attention to detail is amazing, the sight of over 6,000 Lego pieces unassembled is a bit intimidating when you discover just how much work is ahead of you to complete this darned thing. I've worked on it for nearly every day for a week and I still have what seems like weeks more of work ahead of me. As I'm putting this little masterpiece together my mind drifts to the realization that this huge piece of plastic costs $650, and I am thankful that I didn't have to pay for all of this labor. I wonder who this is really for. Those over 18 would find it hard to commit the time to putting this together unless they don't have a job, but if they don't have a job then the $650 price may be out of reach. The quality is obvious, I mean this is LEGO & they know what they are doing. ... show more

    • Looks fantastic
The size of this box is huge. With over 6,800 pieces I shouldn't have been surprised, but it still caught me off guard when it arrived. The build itself was a lot of fun, and the kids and I worked through it over the course of a long weekend, which felt like about the right pace. As you'd expect from LEGO, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. This was my first time using their building app and I came away impressed. Being able to zoom in and rotate the model in 3D made it much easier to confirm I was placing pieces correctly, especially on the trickier sections. One thing to be aware of is the sheer number of tiny pieces, so this is probably better suited to older kids and adults than younger builders. The three finished figures look great posed on their biome stands, and they connect together to form one large display. People do get hung up on the price, but when you compare it to other sets with a similar piece count it's not as far off as it first seems, and the Pokémon licensing almost certainly factors into that. If you're a Pokémon fan or an experienced LEGO builder looking for a substantial project and a standout display piece, this delivers. ... show more

This is a massive kit that is going to take awhile to build. Me and my 3 adult kids are going to build it together.
