Ordered it yesterday and it arrived in 1 day! Points for that of course. I'll update once this is done but I'm excited for it. The box itself is massive with 6800+ pieces. I won't lie, some of the excitement is nostalgia from playing red/blue as a kid when they first released.

Nothing could have prepared us for the incredible size and weight of this package when it first arrived. I ordered this for my son and daughter, who love Legos. They are used to a count of about 2k to maybe 4k, so seeing a box packed with 6,800+ pieces to construct three iconic characters was a massive surprise. This is a serious undertaking that took easily several weekends, which brings up the obvious question: is it actually worth the premium price tag for what you are getting...? The reality is that this set is not built for the casual builder. It is a high-end collector's piece designed for die-hard Pokémon fans and advanced builders who want a completely unique challenge. Every hobby has this dynamic whether you are looking at cars, guitars, or tools, there is always a standard tier and a luxury tier. This kit sits firmly at the top end for sure.     • Simply a stunning LEGO kit - aimed at a specific target audience
I was not prepared for the sheer size and magnitude of this kit. I ordered it for my daughter and her boyfriend who frequently have a LEGO build night at hour house. They generally assemble kits from the F1 or botanical collections. This Pokémon kit was a total shock to the system once it arrived as we all processed the size and weight of the package. Then it finally sunk in that this contains 3 iconic characters for a total of 6,838 pieces. That's several build nights right there, so is it a good value? That depends of course. This kit is definitely aimed at a specific target audience, so I get some of the criticisms and questions. Could it be broken into the separate characters that can be joined together if desired? Isn't $650 too high for the average LEGO hobbyist? Who is the target demographic of this kit? All of these are fair questions. My viewpoint is that indeed, this kit is not aimed at the general LEGO hobbyist. It's a very specific set that is geared toward serious collectors and builders that want something fairly unique or are die-hard Pokémon fans and are willing to pay a premium for this kit. This is no different than any other hobby. Take genres from automobiles and guitars to firearms - there is a market and support for both ends of the spectrum and everything in between. This kit is stunning and will keep my daughter and her boyfriend at home building this kit on Saturday evenings for many weekends to come - that's 5 stars instantly right there! But would I pay $650 personally as I received this via the Vine program? For my daughter and the joy and fulfillment it brings - absolutely, no question. I have purchased many kits - F1 cars, botanicals, etc... for her. Those kits are around 800-1500k pieces ranging from $60-$220. “LEGO Pokémon Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise - Building Set for Adults, Ages 18+ - Collectible Pokémon Figures - Gift Idea for Men & Women - 72153” is a niche gift for the LEGO fan who also loves Pokemon, or the LEGO fan interested in catching ‘em all. My family of LEGO fans is experienced in building even more specialized sets, and this set is one of the more complex ones we’ve built at 6,838 pieces. While this is a fair price for a quality LEGO product ($650 for 6838 pieces is about $0.11/piece, which isn’t bad for LEGO), we’re honestly not huge Pokemon fans, and probably wouldn’t order this specific product again. This is really a dream set for a Pokemon fan, as each character and base are assembled separately and can be combined at the end of assembly or left separate for display. If you’ve bought this set for yourself or your child: buckle up, you’re in for a long ride. There are multiple books and MANY bags. Honestly, I stopped counting. There’s a reason that this set is recommended for age 18+; it’s complicated, time-consuming, and large. It is also NOT a set that you can build quickly. My kids (9 and up) enjoyed the build, but managing all of the pieces was tricky. We used a basin system for each bag so we don’t lose any pieces, and it was easier to sift through them that way. The $650 price tag will deter some casual buyers. Lego fans may like this set just for the aesthetics and challenge, while fans of both Lego and Pokemon will enjoy it as a challenging build and a special keepsake. ... show more

There is no doubt that this is a quality set. The attention to detail is amazing, the sight of over 6,000 Lego pieces unassembled is a bit intimidating when you discover just how much work is ahead of you to complete this darned thing. I've worked on it for nearly every day for a week and I still have what seems like weeks more of work ahead of me. As I'm putting this little masterpiece together my mind drifts to the realization that this huge piece of plastic costs $650, and I am thankful that I didn't have to pay for all of this labor. I wonder who this is really for. Those over 18 would find it hard to commit the time to putting this together unless they don't have a job, but if they don't have a job then the $650 price may be out of reach. This set was much, much bigger than I expected - as someone who is more used to builds in the <2000 piece ballpark, I simply wasn't prepared for just how large the box and the set would be. As always, Lego delivers in terms of quality and beauty, and this set was no exception - it's truly an exquisite set. That being said, the price point is one that I would never be able to accept - I just can't see myself (or many others) shelling out so much for a hobby item.
