I bought this game to play with my son (four) and it is absolutely fantastic. The game overall is less complex than some of the recent LEGO videogames like LEGO Marvel Superheroes and completely without the irritating mechanics that crippled the LEGO Hobbit. As with other LEGO games there are three main modes: Story Mode, which you go through first and have only specific characters to use; Free Play Mode, in which you can use any character you've unlocked and can go to areas of the level previously inaccessible; and "exploring" mode, which is just running around the islands and finding little rewards (Gold Bricks, etc.). Getting to play (in Free Play Mode) a number of smaller dinosaurs within the levels is awesome, and once you've unlocked the larger dinosaurs there are open fields where you can run around as everything from a Compy (about the size of a chicken) to a T-Rex, Stegosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Indominus Rex and even an absolutely enormous Apatosaurus (the human minifigures come up to roughly its knee). There's even an underwater area where you can swim around as a Mosasaurus and two (that we've found) where you can be a Pteranodon or Dimorphodon. The game is, like all of the LEGO games, kid-friendly. It follows the plot of the four movies fairly closely, but scenes where characters in the films are eaten by dinosaurs play out differently. Where Donald Gennaro is eaten by the T-Rex in the first one, in the game he is seen brushing the T-Rex' teeth from inside the dino's mouth. There is absolutely no gore, but there are a handful of theoretically-upsetting moments, like a chase sequence where a character is seen squished under the bottom of a T-Rex' foot, so particularly sensitive youngsters might still get a bit upset. It's all LEGO minifigs, though, so always very cartoonish. Certain elements, like piles of dinosaur droppings that can only be explored by certain characters who dive into them, are aimed squarely at a young child's sense of humor. If I have a complaint, it's about navigating via the map.You have to open a map (which, in the PS3 you can do from anywhere using the 'select' button) and navigate around the map to each area, which is only marked with a dinosaur logo and not labeled until you click it, so it's hard to tell what you've played through and what you haven't without a lot of hunting-and-pecking. There is a "home base" - the Visitor's Center - where you can view the levels in a more linear fashion but there is no way to access it except through the map or by wandering around. There is also very spotty "set destination" control on the map; sometimes, rather than just "beaming" to a spot on the map (and directly into a level) I might want to walk there and see what's along the way, but you have to do this by pulling up the map and remembering turns. There are a handful of areas to which you can "set destination" and follow a string of "ghost studs", but this is a step backwards from earlier games where any point on the map could be set easily.

A excellent entry into the LEGO game series. Very fun and very well done.

I bought this game for my son for Christmas because he loves LEGO and dinosaurs both. He often asks me to play co-operative mode with him and I do. The three aspects of this game that really made it a stellar entry is that 1.) The missions extend through the storylines of all four movies and 2.) They used (to the extent that they could, obviously lines with swear words were not included) the original dialog from all four movies. 3.) The way they handled character deaths from the movies was also very well done and highly amusing. For example, in the original Jurassic Park, when the lawyer hiding in the bathroom gets eaten by the escaped T-Rex, even though the game does indeed show the T-Rex chomping down on him, later on you see him in the T-Rex's mouth, brushing his teeth. Also, the fact that you can unlock the dinosaurs to play as, that was a huge hit with my son.

Frozen!

No, I didn't get a Disney Princess game! I bought this as well as a similar Star Wars game for my grand kids to play when they come to visit. After only a few short hours of playing, both games began to freeze a different parts of the game. It seemed to happen when they played some of the in-game puzzles, which are necessary to move on in the game. I thought maybe they did something in the game to screw it up, but I played it myself several times and it kept freezing. While the games were discounted because they are for a PS3, that doesn't mean they should be crap. I really would have been angry if I paid full price when the game came out. The company that made these should be embarrassed. I did see other people say they had the same problem, but I blew it off as user error. NO USER ERROR, Just a crappy product.

Bought this for my son for this 10th birthday, he has been a fan of Jurassic Park since he figured out what a dinosaur is. So it worked out great that the new movie released and the LEGO game came out within a few days before his birthday. He is a big gamer and has loved LEGO games since we let him put a controller in his hand. It's great, we are able to play with him, there is no killing like in the movies so it is friendly for all children and so easy to use that his 5 year old sister plays with him and has no problems. Their dad and I have even taken the game and play while they are away. This is a great buy and fun for the whole family. It will make you laugh and gives great trivia facts between levels.

I like Lego Marvel Super Heroes better- although this is a really fun game. The reason I say I like Lego Marvel better is because the free play is more fun. I loved being able to play as the dinosaurs, but picking different characters based on if they can dive in poop, hack computers, or use agility objects just isn't as much fun as choosing to be different Marvel Super Heroes. This game also obviously follows all the JP movies, which made the game play seem a little disjointed, even within the same movie- you would have to watch a pause screen with Mr. DNA sometimes randomly in the middle of a scene (it seemed like). I would still recommend it for those that like the Lego games- it was still so fun to play, just not my favorite.
