Description

“Castaway, you should know the truth.” As Link, you awaken in a strange land away from Hyrule, where animals talk and monsters roam. To uncover the truth behind your whereabouts and rouse the legendary Wind Fish, explore Koholint Island and all its trap-ridden dungeons, reimagined in stunning detail for this new release of one of the most beloved The Legend of Zelda games. Along the way, you’ll meet a hilarious assortment of charming characters to which you’ll never want to say goodbye. In this new version of the game, the classic soundtrack has been reborn with new arrangements, and now you can equip more items at once, review key conversations, and navigate the map in new ways. Try your hand at the renovated mini-games to earn dolls based on the Super Mario series or Chamber Stones. These unusual stones can be used to arrange your own Chamber Dungeons; each one is a puzzle in and of itself. Place chambers from dungeons found throughout the game on a series of objective-based grids. Where should the bosses go? How do you get from the entrance to the stairwell? They’re your dungeons, so arrange them however you see fit. To earn more Chamber Stones, you must conquer the main adventure’s dungeons and mini-games or tap any amiibo featuring a The Legend of Zelda character to unlock Chambers exclusive to amiibo. 1993-2019 Nintendo. • Great remake
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Standard
A great remake of a classic! I can still remember playing the original game on my gameboy back in 2000, and to see it brought back to life in an updated way was amazing. The graphics are top notch and the story is as memorable as ever!

  • UPDATED! Worth full price! A nearly perfect remake of the original!
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Standard
Update (2019-09-23): I've had a chance to play through a significant portion of the game, I have a few notes to add: 1) The frame rate issues are a bit worse than I initially experienced. In the few parts of the game where it runs at 60 FPS, the game FEELS perfect. Fluid, detailed, and rich. But many parts, especially in the over world, there's parts that just aren't optimized and the frame rate drops, making it feel unpolished. That doesn't diminish the overall quality of the game, but it's an annoyance that should have been polished up before release. 2) This release sets a new bar for retro game remakes. This is a fairly short game compared to modern releases, but the experience and art direction make it well worth the retail price. However, if Nintendo doesn't inform us of a Link to the Past remake soon, there's going to be a lot of VERY disappointed fans. The treatment of keeping the most important parts of the original intact, while making minor improvements to modernize it, was absolutely the right decision, and I hope other studios will follow suit here! 3) Perfect game for kids. My daughter has always been a bit nonplussed at retro games, but seeing this release has made her excited about playing the other older Zelda games. (Previously only played Breath of the Wild). This is such an easy way to connect with you kids on something you loved as a child! Well... if you're of a certain age. :) -- This is a straight up, almost exact remake of the original game with a few minor differences. The claymation-like graphics look incredible! The only minor quibble is that the frame rate is inconsistent in several areas, which I expect to be fixed with software updates. If you loved the original, you will love the remake. If you want to feel even more nostalgic, get a retro controller for the switch, like this one: https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-SF30-Controller-Windows-macOS-Android/dp/B0748S3GXG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?crid=1XR9Q41TCYYZ5&keywords=snes+switch+controller&qid=1568975468&sprefix=SNES+sw,aps,222&sr=8-1&linkCode=ll1&tag=deepr-20&linkId=cc1ed4b382e22f054c5d4509224d67ed ... show more

  • Great Remake for Fans of Zelda and 2D Style Games
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Standard
I didn't play the original; many online lament that the game is not worth the price due to it being "short" and accesible emulated. I thought this remake was well made and featured quality of life additions that I have read that the handheld versions lacked. This is my first main-line 2D Zelda game; I had previously played the 3DS remakes of the 3D N64 games and enjoyed them but I think I liked Link's Awakening more due to it's portable nature and simpler tone. The game doesn't have as deep as a story as some of the other Zelda games; but it does have a darker undertone with great character interactions along with great dungeons and fun game mechanics! I played this game in Spanish to help me practice and I thought the translation was good in both English and Spanish. I paid full price for this game and had gotten my money's worth. I completed this game between 10-15 hours; I disagree with some saying that's a short game. ... show more

  • One of the better classic game remake done faithfully correct!
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Standard
Wow!!! When I first saw the announcement trailer for this game, I was absolutely SHOCKED! Why? Link's Awakening is a CLASSIC Gameboy game from the 90s that I played and absolutely ENJOYED. After playing, enjoying and beaten the first 3 Zelda games: The Legend of Zelda (NES), The Adventure of Link (NES) and A Link to the Past (SNES) which by the way were groundbreaking games at the time back then. 2 years later after A Link to the Past, Nintendo released Link's Awakening for the GameBoy. I was very intrigued that Nintendo would release a Zelda game for the GameBoy because I wondered how Nintendo could transform the magic of Zelda games into a portable gaming device. I remembered purchasing Link's Awakening just 3 months after it was released in 1993 because I was doing landscaping jobs for my neighborhood and saving up money from mowing lawns, raking leaves, trimming bushes, etc. Games were insanely expensive back then and it can be difficult to decide which game to purchase that will be worth your money's worth. I purchased Link's Awakening from Toysrus store, rushed home and booted up the game. The opening scene of the game instantly had me excited and I was blown away how detailed it looked! I went ahead and beat the game over the course of 3 days because the game was THAT good. Plus, I absolutely loved exploring every inch of the game as well. I loved this game so much that I even rebought the game again on the GameBoy Color which was titled: 'Link's Awakening DX' and again for the Nintendo 3DS via eshop. So, you can imagine how insanely excited I was when I saw the opening scene of Link's Awakening when Nintendo revealed the game during Nintendo Direct. I couldn't believe Link's Awakening was getting a remake for the Nintendo Switch! Plus, I was happy that Nintendo released this remake at the right time because Link's Awakening can tide me over while waiting for Breath of the Wild sequel releasing on the Switch in the future. Everything about this Link's Awakening is absolutely 100% faithful to the original gameboy game and the graphics just make this game even more appealing to see. It reminds me of Zelda Wind Waker for the Nintendo Gamecube because so many fanboys were absolutely upset about how the graphics look for Wind Waker. Eventually, Wind Waker ends up becoming one of the best Zelda games to be released since Ocarina of Time. All the same fanboys that were very angry and upset at the graphics, they suddenly forgotten that they judged the game so quickly during the reveal and they suddenly say how much they love the graphics in Wind Waker, LOL!! Wind Waker also went on to become one of the favorites Zelda games to play in the speed running community. Anyways, if you haven't ever played Link's Awakening, then I strongly recommend that you buy this game ASAP because you wont regret it one bit. If you have played Link's Awakening, guess what? I still recommend buying this remake as well. If you enjoyed or didn't fully enjoy Link's Awakening on the GameBoy or Gameboy Color or Nintendo 3DS virtual game via eshop, then this remake will definitely make you love Link's Awakening. Forgive me for the long/boring review I've just typed up and buy this game asap! ... show more

  • Not the best Zelda Title... But not the worst
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Standard
I gotta say, this game has all the elements of a fun time. The graphics are crisp, clean, and cute. A tad too cute for my taste when it comes to the Zelda Franchise. It is kinda like a chibi version of Link. But you can not compare it to more visually stunning entries of the franchise like Tears of the Kingdom, Breath of the Wild, or even Skyward Sword HD. The gameplay is still satisfying and easy to understand. The story is pretty straightforward, and it is just an all around good time. I would certainly recommend adding this to your Switch library. ... show more
