Description

"Patric is going to be the Ina Garten of laundry." ―Good Day L.A. A MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK by GMA.com, The Washington Post, Working Mother, Good Day L.A., and more! Patric Richardson, aka the "Laundry Evangelist,” reveals his revolutionary methods for cleaning clothes―and making laundry loads more fun. Doing laundry is rarely anyone’s favorite task. But to Patric Richardson, laundry isn't just fun―it's a way of life. After years of running Laundry Camp at the Mall of America for thousands of eager learners, he's ready to share his tips, tricks, and hacks―bringing surprise and delight to this commonly dreaded chore. Sorting your laundry? It's not all about whites and darks. Pondering the wash cycles? Every load, even your delicates, should be washed using express or quick-wash on warm. Facing expensive dry cleaning bills? You'll learn how to wash everything―yes everything―at home. And those basically clean but smelly clothes? Richardson has a secret for freshening those too (hint: it involves vodka, not soap). Changing your relationship with laundry can also change your life. Richardson’s handy advice shows us how to save time and money (and the planet!) with our laundry―and he intersperses it all with a healthy dose of humor, real-life laundry stories, and lessons from his Appalachian upbringing and career in fashion. Laundry Love will make you wonder why you ever stressed about ironing, dry cleaning, or (god forbid) red wine spills on your new couch. No matter the issue, Richardson is here to help you make laundry miracles happen―wrinkles and stains be damned. Read more

  • Very fun read
Would highly recommend. Easy read with lots of good tips.

  • Made me enjoy laundry day! Brilliant!
This book has changed my entire relationship with clothes and made doing laundry enjoyable (and I have always HATED laundry.) I feel like kicking myself for unnecessary, costly practices I've been doing my whole adult life like buying fabric softener and dry cleaning. Never understood the point of mesh bags and now I use them in every load, along with a drying rack. Honestly, you'd think properly washing clothes would be a basic skill we learned long ago. Maybe they should bring back home economics classes and use this as a textbook. We should really all know this stuff (and how to roast a chicken!) ... show more

  • "You don't *have* to do laundry - you *get* to do laundry."
This is a beautifully written, joyful, inspiring book about my favorite subject - laundry. Patric Richardson's expertise and effervescent personality illuminates every page. Laundry Love distills his formal education in textiles, years of experience in fashion, and passion for clothing and cleanliness into a book that is just the right length. His methods are practical and he describes them concisely, with enough explanation of the science to be enlightening and helpful, but not so much that one gets bogged down in details. If something seems counterintuitive, he explains the reasoning behind it and makes it make perfect sense. Some fascinating history of laundry is included and even a little bit of poetry, which was a delightful surprise. I was a bit concerned before I read a book by an actual "laundry evangelist" that I would need to purchase a bunch of expensive tools and exotic potions in fancy bottles and spend additional hours doing laundry to follow his guidance, but that is not the case at all - using his methods will actually require far fewer products, all of them less expensive than what I'm currently using, and will take significantly less time. This book is so uplifting, informative, and enjoyable that I would recommend it to anyone, even someone who has no intention of ever doing any laundry. It's just that good. ... show more

  • Inspiring!
This book was an unexpected game changer. It gave me a new, and much needed, outlook on one of the most dreaded chores in my home. I never thought I'd feel excited about laundry! Like others, I do wish there was an index included for quick reference (especially for the myriad stain removal instructions). However, being aware of this beforehand, I solved this problem by opting for the ebook so I can at least do an easy search when needed. I would definitely recommend the ebook version for this reason. ... show more

  • Great book. Great present for any household.
This book offers great insights into laundry. Especially about what works for getting your laundry clean, not using the high priced stuff they are selling you in TV commercials (which is actually worse for your clothing). There is a section on stain removal. You can find what type of stain you need to remove and this will tell you the best way to remove the stain using common household items like vodka or white vinegar. This is a great present for any household. ... show more

  • A Delightful Book!
This little volume is full of helpful tips and details about the age old task of doing laundry. It's a clever, thoughtful, and lighthearted book that serves as a primer for cleaning myriad fabrics efficiently. The book would make a thoughtful gift for a bridal shower. However, it's actually an ideal read for everyone who'd like to learn the best way to care for the clothes they wear and the fabrics in their homes. ... show more

  • A useful book that's also lovely to read.
I heard the author interviewed on public radio and really enjoyed the way he expressed himself and talked about his family and his passion for cleaning. Unbelievably, it really is his passion. I loved this book, which has a real homespun quality. He talks about his family history, the people who meant so much to him growing up and what he learned from them. All throughout are stories about laundry "disasters" that he was able to correct in sometimes ingenious ways. I learned so much that was practical about stain removal that I keep the book handy just in case... ... show more

  • Fun & informative
I saw this author on TV, demonstrating laundry hacks…but really!? A book about laundry!? Who knew, it’s full of great information, well written, & funny.
