  • Just what the Doctor ordered
I recently had the front-end shocks replaced on my 2014 Dodge Durango Citadel 5.7 Hemi. The front driver side was clearly blown and leaking fluid. Due to the ridiculous OEM prices. The mechanic use Monroe 72546 OESpectrum. But After the front-end replacement, my car was still not driving normal. Something was off, but was told that everything else at the front end was normal. Since my D has been riding on the OEM shocks and struts, I checked the rear ones. Lo and behold the passenger side self-leveling shocks was also blown and leaking. The front-end replacement was very expensive. So replacing the rears myself was a no brainer. Compare to the front struts. The rear shocks replacement is very easy to do. As expected, the Mopar prices were off the chart. Lucky for me, I found a forum with people talking about aftermarket self-leveling shocks for the 3rd Gen Durango’s. In one of the post a member talked about the KYB SR2009. He used those on his 2014 Durango and they fit perfectly. He also mentioned that those won’t work on a Durango with self-leveling shocks and the sport suspension like the RT. Those use the grey type mounts. My 2014 Durango uses the black mounts. (Note: They are two different type of black mounts) The attached photo shows the OEM mounts that came with my 2014 Durango Citadel. I had the rear mounts replaced 2 years ago. But they were a bit rusty. I simply cleaned them with the wire wheel and brush and repainted them. At the end they looked brand new. The rubber bushings were all in great shape. While comparing the OEM with KYB. I noticed the shaft on the KYB was lower but body was identical so I went ahead with the install. I’ve seen people online removing a lot of suspension components in order to remove them. As I tried to remove them it was impossible to do unless you compress the shocks. But that my friends is easier say than done. Instead of removing extra suspension parts that will probably require an alignment. I removed a few of the plastic retainers from the wheel well liner. The ones closer to the shocks. Then pull the liner outward and remove the shocks. The new ones came compressed so they went on easily. However, I had to lift the suspension with a jack to install the lower bolt. Like I said, it was an easy process. It took me several hours due to cleaning and painting the old mounts. I hope the following torque specs for my 2014 Durango Citadel 5.7 Hemi will help others. Upper mount Bolts 48 Lbs. Lower bolt 173 Lbs. Wheel lug nuts 110 Lbs. for aluminum wheels. Mopar wanted approximately $1200 for the pair compared to $695 for the KYB SR2009. During the test drive, I just couldn’t believe how nice my Durango drove. It felt like it did the day that I drove it of the dealership lot. It is exactly how it should be, Nice and level. My Durango was in serious need for some new shocks. My Only regret is that I waited so long. ... show more

  • Not great, I expect better quality from this company
I have had many KYB shocks and struts, these do not self level though and have not a very quality ride

  • These do not fit a 2014 Durango SXT with Load leveling rear suspension.
I own a 2014 Durango SXT with factory tow package, with the nivomat rear load leveling shocks. I ordered the SR2009 Shocks from Rockauto as they and multiple other sites including Amazon said they fit load leveling rear suspension, and went to install them on my durango. The top shaft is completely different from the OEM shocks and does not allow the threads to come through the top mount for installation. Even the body of the shock is different. Overall length is the same. Rock Auto will not refund my money because on paper it says they fit my Durango. Google "SR2009 Does not fit forum" and you'll find my write up with pictures at Dodge Durango forum. ... show more
