These sharpeners are amazing; they’re heavy, balanced and sharpen crisp.

  • It's a good sharpener.
I like the sharpener because it doesn't waste the lead or the wood in the pencil.

  • Why, Oh Why is it so Hard to Make a Good Pencil Sharpener?
Sleazy practice of showing three while selling one notwithstanding, this sharpens not one whit better than any of these other 2$ sharpeners, and much, much worse than the similarly priced Staedtler Manual Pencil Sharpener (STD51163) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001E6C08E, although that's a tiny little plastic can that collects shavings so it's bigger. This is magnesium, made in Germany, and impressively sharp, its adurable littledevice and yet... You have to keep the pencil EXACTLY straight or it'll create a deformed, unstable needle-sharp point that'll chip off to dust as soon as it touches paper. While you have to keep pencils straight in all wedge sharpeners, other brands give you a margin of error and guide you in straight. The KUM doesnt, at least with "normal" style pencils. I'd imagine if you use pencils that are a perfect fit, and are super careful, you could get a usably sharp point. I have trouble consistenly getting a stable point on FC 9000 drawing pencils, and it chews up the wood on my colorase. Fatter pencils are better, but it should do standard pencils far better, it's got two got a little hole after all. Mankind has been making sharpeners for, well, I'm too lazy to look if up on Wikipedia, but they should be perfecting them by now. Or at least carbon fiber sharpeners with six pivoting blades and a lubricating strip so we think they are. I have a 20 year old Panasonic KP-350 auto-stop plug-in that was perfect. It would produce a flawless, long taper, STABLE needle point on everything that would fit, never chewing or breaking. Even mascara pencils! Sadly, it doesnt quite give me that needle point I need anymore.I'm looking for a replacement, manual or electric, that can efficiently and consistently give me a stable needle point. That staedtler does best so far, but I guess I'll have to give an electric a shot, although it'd get expensive to by and compare. ... show more

  • GREAT pencil sharpener!!
I love it! Like many of us, I have found that neither electric pencil sharpeners nor the inexpensive hand-held sharpeners do the simple job of sharpening a pencil really well. Sometimes the lead is exposed on one side, but not so much on the other. Sometimes the lead breaks or falls out. I've had to accept mediocre quality for what I thought would be the best I could have -- until now! I have tried this on several old and new lead pencils, new colored pencils, and the results have been outstanding! The blade will eventually dull, but since I will only use the smaller size hole, I will simply replace the worn out blade with the unused blade over the larger hole. I also hope to find replacement blades, although these little 2-hold pencil sharpeners are not expensive, so purchasing several is not out of the question. I am so glad I gave this little sharpener a try! ... show more
