I am incredibly flat arched and as much as I know walking around closer to the ground is better for me, I have to admit I do NOT like being barefoot, but I love to feel my feet form to the shapes underneath it and these shoes have really helped me find a happy medium within there. The teen said the shoes are very comfortable and great for walking. The picture shows them on a trail up Mt. Rainier (not for backpacking). The only complaint is they are way too hot and not as breathable as other shoes. We first thought maybe it was a very hot summer day but it's the same on moderately hot days.
