  • big chunky neck for big chunky paws. nice bass
Color: White
smart buy. all this stuff for under 100 bucks. quality was there and the neck is beefy, so if you have big paws you, you will love the p- feel. i went and bought an aftermarket jazz style neck for it. and the neck slid in perfect. i dabble in luither, so i know quality, so there were alot of sharp fret ends. ... show more

  • Excellent looking, functional bass -- and beautiful too!
Color: Lake Blue
I bought this because I liked the blue/green color, the white perloid pickguard, and the white inlays on the fretboard. I also liked the symmetrical body shape, and the fact that the pickups are Precision/Jazz (PJ). The only ingredient missing is that it's not short scale like I prefer. But I can tolerate that. It sounds decent enough, and one thing that really suprised me is that the entire package that came is so small and light. The accessories -- the amp, gig bag, strap, and power cord, are all rather inexpensive and cheap feeling, but what do you expect for $100? I didn't buy the bass for these add-ons, so their cheap feel didn't affect my rating. The gig bag fits the bass, unlike the Glarry short scale bass I also purchased and made into a piccolo bass. I needed to adjust the intonation and like many basses I own, the bass has a lot of fret buzz on the Low #'s F, F#, and G on the first, second, and third frets. But this buzz doesn't come through the amp, fortunately. I will probably play with the action and saddle height to see if I can get rid of the buzz, but I am still happy with the bass overall, particularly for the price I paid. By the way, I am a former semi-pro bass player who gigged regularly until Covid hit. I also build instruments. Through my building, I learned how "similar" cheap and expensive basses and guitars are. I believe there is a lot of hype about brands, and I am happy to use low-end basses for recording and also performing live for paying customers. The major difference is in the sound of the pickups and how well the instrument plays due to its setup. Another thing to consider is hum -- this bass does have hum like all other single coil pickups. If you want to get rid of it, you would have to replace the pickups with humbuckers and sheild the bass. Overall, a nice addition to my growing collection of basses, and one that I love to just look at as it hangs on the wall of my music room. ... show more

  • Solid bass for the price
Color: Lake Blue
I've played guitars for over 35 years and recently have been practicing set-up skills on budget guitars. This is my first bass, purchased because I have found that today's entry level instruments have solid guts but the low cost means certain quality checks need to be performed by the buyer. With this Ktaxon PJ bass, that's been my experience, too. First off, it plays fine, and looks beautiful with metallic fleck finish, eggshell pick guard and fret inlays, and black tuners, bridge, knobs and pickups. Intonation and action were perfect out of box! Just had to tune it up. Comfortable weight and balance with strap. Tuners feel smooth and hold tune. The "room for improvement" areas: a few spots on the neck wood are a little rough (just a light sanding needed). Noticed a scratch at the top of headstock. Fret ends are noticeable, not sharp but could be filed a bit. The nut is cut ok for the string intonation, but looks a little bit "shoved in" to the slot on the E string side. But none of that impacts playability and are probably issues that may/may not be on every bass. The little amp is functional, not very loud but it works. The extras: Cord works, capo is fine, strap is cheap and bag is thin vinyl dust cover (wouldn't trust carrying the bass in it)...but these are all extras. Hey, you got a playable entry level bass for less than $100! The whole idea is to get you started on the instrument and upgrade/modify later. Note this is sold by Ktaxon, who often resell Glarry instruments. The "GB20" bass amp is definitely a Glarry, but mine cane minus the branding logo. Similarly,no name on bass headstock. So it's likely a Glarry undercover! Of course at this price, one can find shortcuts taken and criticize parts. You can't expect perfection. But it's a fully functional bass to get you started, and in this case, didn't need too much to get started playing. ... show more

  • Cheap, functional, nice sounding beginner bass
Color: Lake Blue
In general: Purchased primarily to see what these cheap bass guitars were like. I don't like round wound strings, so I put on flats. Since this was a test to see what a cheap bass can do, I found the cheapest flat wounds, Fender long scale 9050's. The original strings were ok, but i hate round wound strings. While stated color was blue, this is definitely green! The Positive: -For an instrument this cheap, the body is nicely contoured front and back making it very comfortable to play. - neck to body fit is excellent, as is the finish , and attractive 3 layer pearl pick guard. - excellent tone control. - lots of sustain - frets are surprisingly smooth along edges The Not so positive: -nut end of fretboard was a bit rough (taped, re colored the edge) - the bridge holes for the E and A strings too small for wrapped ends of the new strings (drilled slightly larger holes to accommodate strings) - Intonation was difficult, requiring some compromise. -the fret board looks quite nice after a rub with oil, with one small imperfection As for the included Amp and accessories: The Amp: total junk. Worse sounding thing I've ever heard. No bass, low volume. The cord is ok, works but poorly assembled The strap: works but is horrible. Thin, slippery, cheap crap. The pick and capo...who cares. Don't use them. Conclusion: surprisingly good sounding bass, comfortable to play. If your looking for an inexpensive instrument, one these may do nicely. But, DO NOT buy as a kit. Buy the bass, invest in a good padded strap, and a name brand amp (small Fender, Ampeg, Ibanez, etc). ... show more
