If you are going on a long road trip and you need a distraction for kids in short form, then this will work great. The games are all generic so don't expect any IP games, at least none that I noticed or recognized. It is fairly lightweight so durability is a concern. The games and menu are easy to navigate and play, for the most part, but it just takes some getting used to the controls. Battery lasts for roughly around 5 hours before needing to be charged again. Overall, I would recommend this as a low cost option for kids.

I opened this product thinking I knew exactly what I was going to get: a bunch of cheesy games in a cheap package. I have bought inexpensive handheld game devices like this before, and had fun with them. Surprisingly, I was giving it way too much credit already. When I opened the box, I admit I was surprised at the quality of the hardware: The unit is rechargeable with a micro USB charging cable (included) and does not require alkaline batteries. The screen works great, the D-pad is responsive, the circle pad works really well, and the buttons click very nicely. The shoulder buttons are for decoration only, apparently. That's about all I can say about this that is positive. There are over 200 "games", but don't get excited. None of the games are fun to play, not even the ones that are reminiscent of current popular games. This is listed as a toy intended for children between the ages of 4 and 12, but based on the fact that there are multiple games that include visible red blood, giving this to anyone under 12 is not recommended. If you are old enough to play games with blood and combat, chances are you already have a phone, tablet, PC, or a real game console, which you can use to download free games from any app store, making this one a waste of money. Even ignoring the blood, I would rather play the 8-bit counterparts of these games, because they run at a much higher frame rate, making it smooth. 8-bit games are old, but not unresponsive. These, by contrast, are so slow you can watch the pixels being drawn from the top of the screen to the bottom, like on a CRT TV. Plus there is very little substance. One game, "Ice Bucket", is a game where you dump a bucket of water on a basketball player over and over again while listening to the ear grating piano soundtrack until you lose your will to continue and give up. Another game called "Tic Tac Toe" is not Tic Tac Toe at all. It is Othello (a free game you can download on any app store). This handheld game unit is advertised as having "learning games". I'm not sure what you might learn, exactly, but these games are clearly not for standard educational purposes. In a word, they suck. Many of the game titles are misspelled, like “Archer Marster”, “Ballon Pop” (which is in there twice), "The Ftpunk", “Eatting Worms", Tom vs Jarry", "Revenge Cater" (which features a cat, not a caterer), "Greedy Jarry", "Destroy Hubble", "Two Mouses", "Eatting Balls", and "Boldly Egg". The poor spelling shows that whoever made these games clearly didn't speak English very well and also didn't care enough to fix it. Quality was clearly not as important as quantity. There are about 5 different songs that any of the 200 games can play. 2 of them use a compressed piano synthesizer which wears easily on the nerves. Overall, this thing is worth next to nothing. Any app store has hundreds of comparable games available for free. And if your kid doesn't have a phone or a video game console, don't even think about touching this. The gore and blood make it clear that this is not actually for children. You can get higher quality options for free, and you can buy retro handhelds and games that actually function for the price you would pay for this junky waste of plastic. I expected a 2 or 3 star product, but I wish I could give this a resounding zero.

I did not expect a lot for this price point, but there are likely better options. The games are laggy and presumably the hardware is underpowered. I was expecting mainstream retro games, but these are more like a lot of sudoku plus weird clones of mario and raiden.

Kids Handheld Games - $27.99 With 218 Retro Video Games, this is a really cool game. It's full color, and the games are amazingly good. It has knockoff versions of flappy bird, fire and water kids, space invaders, mortal kombat, tetris, breakout, and so much more! Now mind you, I did say knockoff versions. Just as good, without the licensed stuff. It is only one player at a time, which I consider a big downside. I'd like them to pass it back and forth in the car to play against each other, but instead they each have to finish a single player game before they trade off. Still, it's a really great little handheld. They aren't allowed phones in the car, so there is no competition with it, other than looking out the window and maybe using their brains.
