  • Really great
Color: Burnt Olive Style: 65 Liter
I upgraded to this internal frame Kelty from an old Kelty Yukon (external frame) which I had for about 20 years. Although many are going with lightweight backpacks, I really like the ruggedness of the Kelty so am okay with the extra weight of more durable fabric and such. The zipper design is, as with my old Kelty, very good at keeping out water so it doesn't need covered except perhaps during a torrential downpour. Lots of adjustment for great comfort. I must admit that I was skeptical at first (in fact I "almost" returned it because it didn't seem very well supported), often wondering if "anything" new is made as well as something older, but this Kelty seems to be just as well made as my old one, but is lighter, and feels a bit better on the back and shoulders. Also although it didn't at first seem very well supported, due to the internal frame, once loaded it handled everything well, and lots of securing straps to contain any size load as tightly as needed towards the back. ... show more

  • Bang for the buck.
Color: Burnt Olive Style: 65 Liter
I did tons of research before settling on a new pack. While its true, the Coyote doesn't have as many belt pockets as some of the competitor, the cost of this thing is less than half of an Osprey Aether pack. This is also my first internal frame pack. If your load-out is weighing less than 40 lbs I recommend this thing. I keep my kit weight(for a 4 day trip) right around 32 to 35 lbs and this pack is insanely comfortable with that amount of weight. Would recommend for sure. ... show more

  • Mostly good, a few complaints
Color: Lyons Blue Style: 105 Liter
I do not know who in the world designed this part of the pack, but they should be fired immediately, as should anyone who approved of it. The separator between the sleeping bag compartment and the main pack section is the DUMBEST thing I have ever seen on a pack, ever. It's literally a thing flap of fabric with two of the little loop and stick whatever things you'd usually use to hold the windows open on a tent. This is so unbelievably stupid, it hurts just to look at it. When I stuffed my sleeping bag into the sleeping bag compartment, it literally just bulged through the MASSIVE gaps left between the two little things that hold the fabric there. I do not have any idea how this made it past everyone involved in the production of this product. The only other complaint that I have is the waist buckle area. Nobody seems to be able to get this right, but when you have a super heavy pack and you tighten it down, the buckle is literally over your navel. It's on your stomach. Why is it SO DIFFICULT for manufacturers to make something that pads that area? I had to go and purchase a separate product that does this. The padding needs to 1.) Be a little bit thicker and softer at the same time, and then also extend further so that you do not NEED a separate thing to pad the buckle. This is so common sense it blows my mind it can be missed at all. I would have given it 4 stars if it weren't for that. And the reasons for missing another star are below. It should also come with a water cover that stores in the top or bottom of the pack. The section to hold a water bladder should be more protected so that when your pack is stuffed with crap, you can actually use the thing and get your bladder in and out. It's a real pain. The holes for the bladder hose should also be on each side, not in the middle. I had such a short hose due to this design oversight that causes the hose to have to be routed in more of a curve than is necessary, causing me to lose just enough length that it's difficult to drink while wearing the pack. Everything else is great. Good pack for the price, just need to fix those things and it'll be 5 stars and my favorite pack ever. ... show more

  • Great pack, minor issues but worth the buy!
Color: Burnt Olive Style: 85 Liter
Great pack all around, used it for the about 3 Hikes now ranging from 7 miles to 30. The only downside to this pack for me would be two things. 1.) it’s waterproofing is not that great so you’ll have to invest in either a pack cover or spray it with proofing. 2. There are no strap retainers. Velcro or bands would be nice to roll up all the excess straps once everything is pulled taunt. Great pack overall for evenly distribution of weight. Amount of pockets is great and the placing of them is perfect. ... show more

  • Comfort and features at a great value
Color: Lyons Blue Style: 105 Liter
I had to replace my Jansport D2 as it just wasn't comfortable enough any more for my older bones. The pack adjusts quickly, has plenty of room (I got the biggest, the 103L), but with a few pulls of straps, it shrinks down to almost a day pack. The fabric isn't waterproof but with my Northface pack getting sticky on the inside and my D2 flaking off its waterproof treatment, I understand why it was done. You can make the the two compartments one big one and the version I have lets you open the big section without going through the top and pulling gear out. I wish the straps and clasps were a little beefier, but we will see in time whether this concern is warranted. The bottom side pockets could be a little bigger, but they hold a big Nalgene bottle no problem. The big section has a set up for a water bag: a pick for the bag and a little slot out the back for the tube, I hope this works. I wish the two pockets on either of the padded belt were a little bigger and both had zippers but not a deal breaker. As far as comfort goes, I put all the gear I would need for a weekend in the woods barring food and man it just fit like it was part of my back. I did feel some of the weight, of course, but not much. That is probably its strongest asset. 2/8/21 edit: the pads shoulder straps need to be beefed up and the strap that pulls them together doesn't stay in place, will slide up on you. I wish the pockets had double zippers, only the lower compartment does. The zippers also take curved paths, which means they don't open easily. I still like the pack, but it needs some refinements to the design. ... show more
