I am sooooo glad I got these shoe/boots. I'm in my 70s and want to continue being active outdoors. So I went on the hunt for good, sturdy, hiking boots. I asked some shoe sales people, other people I saw hiking and then resorted to AI and asked the question putting in my parameters including the fact I'm older, not as steady as I used to be, have a bit of a balance problem and want to remain active. The aggregate of information pointed to these hikers as the best of the bunch for females of my age and issues. So I bought them and oh man am I glad I did. The shoes are great. The shaft of the shoe comes up over the ankle and allows for lacing up to increase ankle stability. The soles are grippy enough to trek through trails here in the PNW where they are often wet and slippery along with the ability to climb about on granite rock. There is enough padding on the collar of the shaft to make them comfy once you break them in. It is recommended by the manufacturer to wear them daily for 2-3 hours for several days before going off hiking. There is plenty of room in the toe box, even when wearing thicker hiking socks. I ordered 1/2 size larger than I normally wear so I could wear thick socks and it turned out to be the right choice. The toe box is a tad bit higher than the rest of the shoe which is perfect. You don't scrape your toes inside your shoes when going downhill as I used to in my walking shoes. I also notice my feet stay put inside the boots better than they do in walking shoes. The sole is a bit wider than the shoe itself which lends another level of stability that I very much appreciate. They aren't too heavy either. I can go walking or hiking and my calves don't wear out from tracking too much weight. They are water repellant and so far my feet heave remained dry even kicking through salal underbrush on the trails. They are warm enough as well as I wear Merino wool hiking socks and the shoes themselves provide a good cover and keep the feet dry. There is a waterproof breathable membrane inside the shoe that works as advertised. As with all Keens they are a tad pricey, but not any more than other brands. I did get these for $10 less because they were the end of a lot. So if you are ladies are looking for a good hiking shoe/boot and need the same things as me, I would say put out the money and get something that will last you for awhile. ... show more

These KEEN boots exceeded all my expectations. I wore them straight out of the box for a weekend hiking trip, no break-in needed! The comfort is outstanding, with great arch support and just the right amount of ankle stability. They’re truly waterproof (I tested them in wet, muddy conditions), and the traction is excellent on all terrains. I also love that they feel sturdy without being heavy. Plus, they look great too, rugged but still stylish. If you’re looking for a dependable hiking boot that keeps your feet dry, supported, and comfortable for miles, this is it. I’ve been hiking my entire life. I’m 60 year old woman now. Still very active. I went on a moderately difficult trail in these hiking boots, never had Keens before and won’t ever again. I chose the higher ankle for support as I am older, it’s common sense. The tread doesn’t hold, I was on a decline in dirt and a few leaves, ground 100% dry. I was going done correctly, sideways and using my hiking stick. Well I fell, hard! Wrenched my back all the way up to my neck! Got home and discovered a swollen left ankle and a tiny blister. I ordered a size up after reading some reviews. If you want a hiking boot that’s more for easy trails, mainly flat these are fine. I did like the lightweight aspect. The steel or hard toe box. Don’t order a half size up, they tripped me up a bit climbing knee high rocks due to sizing. ... show more

So far, these are the best boots I have found! They run a bit larger and wider than I would like, but I wasn't sure sizing down would be ideal either. I do wish I could lace them tighter. I have worn these in all types of weather. My feet remained dry. The hight is my favorite, no more branches or stickers cutting my ankles. They are not too heavy and I can run in them if I need too. I may get an insole as I need more arch support, but these do offer good support if your arches aren't very high. Great tread. Beautiful details in the design. ... show more

This is my second pair of Keen boots and I am a Keen girl for life! First pair I got at LL Bean when I went into the store looking for short waterproof hikers. I tried multiple pairs and the all rubbed in the "bunion" area so I knew they wouldn't work for hiking. Then the sales rep introduced me to a pair of Keen boots and they were HEAVEN! I never realized hiking could be this comfortable! They are wide enough to give your feet room to spread without looking like clown shoes. I just bought this pair of high hikers for more ankle support for a mountain hike in Rwanda to see silverback gorillas! These are the best hiking boots. I put some supportive inserts in them for my high-maintenance feet, but they are so comfortable, supportive, durable, and have been on so many hikes over the past year.
