My third pair of Keen hiking gear, Sandals, high top, and the ankle height. The wide toe box is a big plus. Very comfortable. Size varies with these shoes, high tops are larger for the stated size, sandals are a little small, these shoes hit spot on for a size 12. Well made but I know after a while, the soles will start to detach. They are compound soles, with two layers of dissimilar color and composition. They come apart in the arches and toes. Nothing you can do about it except keep a. Tube of shoe goo around to fix them. Seems the original method of affixing the soles gets old and releases. Not a problem unless you are mid hike. Having said that, and it is the same for all of my Keen purchases, they readily can be fixed. It’s my third pair, right, so if I can fix them I will. Upper shoe quality is very high and the toe jambs are quite rugged. These are the most comfortable hiking brand I have used.

I don't normally write reviews when something positive occurs, more so I just complain when something goes wrong and then post about that. But I felt compelled to laud this hiking shoe, even though I've only used it on one 8 mile hike in the Angeles National Forest. My girlfriend and I hiked Mount Baden Powell this past Saturday 4/25/15 in what ended up being the perfect test environment for any hiking shoe or boot. A cold, windy day with plenty of unusual Southern California precipitation. Starting out at 37 degrees at 6,500 feet, my feet felt comfortable, warm and firm in these Keen's. Hiking up to between 8,000' - 9,300' it started snowing. We crossed over patches of snow as well as walking through mud. A good portion of the terrain we passed over was rock. On the way down as we dropped to 7,500' and below the snow turned to sleet and then became rain so we also crossed several puddles along the trail path. After completion my feet stayed warm, comfortable and dry. I've got fat/wide feet so these size 11's were very spacious and my feet didn't feel cramped. I've also got a pair of Vasque Taku GTX hiking boots and these Keen Targhee II's had an extremely similar feel to the Vasque's, just in a hiking shoe form instead of hiking boot form. They seem pretty sturdy and durable, but I can't give them 5 stars just yet because in my books an excellent product will have a long, productive and durable life. Like my Toyota or my Vasque hiking boots. I'll try to follow up with this post in a couple months or after I use them to hike Mount Whitney in September with these Keen Targhee II's and then possibly raise it to 5 stars if they are still going strong without a great deal of wear and tear. ***Updated 8-24-16. These hiking shoes are by far the best hiking shoe's I've ever had. I don't even bother with using my Vasque hiking boots anymore. Besides, trekking poles help reduce ankle sprains anyway, so who needs a heavier/bulkier boot? The last 3 weekends I hiked San Bernardino Peak (16.5 miles 4700' elevation gain), Old Baldy Trail (13 miles 6,000' elevation gain) and last weekend Mount Whitney (23 miles 6,670' elevation gain) and these hiking shoes are now well over a year old and still kicking ass. Grip still great, comfortable enough and very durable, wide for my wide feet...I cannot praise these hiking shoes enough. Pair them with Thorlos wool hiking socks and your feet will do better and last longer than other poor suckers stuck in other shoes/boots.***

I love these shoes, I've been through probably 7 pairs, they last me about 6 months of everyday use, lots of hiking. My only complaint is that the tread portion of the shoe tends to alway separate here on every pair, both feet. I end up super gluing it back every time. I have the K30 insoles. So far these have been the only shoes that are comfortable for my plantar fascitus.

Comfortable shoe that's durable and waterproof. I've had similar Keen hiking shoes, they really last as I wear them daily. Pricey but they last longer, so your not replacing as soon.

This is my fourth pair of Keen waterproof hiking shoes. They have all worked out great. The Keen Targahee 2 & 3 are waterproof and a only come up to my ankle, so they are a lower profile than most boots and they seem to let air thru them so my feet are not sweaty or damp ever. This latest pair took me a month of everyday casual wearing to break in properly. I have not experienced any sort of foot pain or soreness while wearing them even after strenuous hikes in rugged terrain. They are a much better fit for me than the leading competition (Merrel). The shoes have usually lasted a year per pair for the amount of use I get out of them, wearing them almost everyday. My previous pairs have blackened a bit from wearing them in the very sunny Coachella Valley otherwise known as The Mohave Desert. My previous pairs have worn out, after a acceptable amount of use, in the inside back of the heel area. The fabric wears out and tears open and then the padding breaks apart. It remained soft though, and did not become dry and hard. And in one case the back of the lower rubber sole on the bottom lost it's adherence to the upper rubber sole directly under the leather. I still keep them as a back up pair. The shoes have a very sturdy toe area that does not have any metal in it, but is made of a hard rubber. After five years is mountainous hiking in Idylwyld, and all over Coachella I have never had any stubbed toes or foot injurys. Nothing has ever pierced them and injured me, although one pair did get a two inch tear from a sharp rock that sliced the leather on the outside of the shoe just behind my small toe, but it did not cut through the inner lining and it still remains waterproof. I did not attempt to patch it or glue it together. The Keen Targhee are a very dependable hiking shoe in my opinion. Fashionable and rugged durability just like me! 😊

These shoes are the most awesome shoes there is. My best friend's older brother knows some guys, and he says apparently these are the shoes that navy seals wear when they are undercover. The seals like these shoes cause when you wear them, people know your not messing around. I'm not a seal but I think I will be one when I get out school and sign up. I'm already practicing swimming in my pool and I can hold my breath for two minutes. Being a seal is pretty much the best job you could have, ever. In the mean time I bought these shoes cause I'm pretty radical and need some shoes that enhance my skills. These shoes fit good. Like really good. I normally wear a 10 1/2 so bought these in 10 1/2 and guess what? They fit. I bought them in the Gargoyle/midnight navy color because gargoyles are badass. Maybe not as badass as navy seals, but still. They look just like the picture so that's cool. They're supposed to be waterproof so when the seals come out of the water, people can't hear the squishy sound when you sneak up on them. I haven't tried it yet but I'm gonna try sneaking up on my mean neighbor some time. They're really comfortable too and don't get hot on my feet. The last thing you'd want on a secret mission is to get hot feet. The tread is pretty gnarly and makes it so you don't slip. They're so awesome I think I can probably run up a wall like in the movies. I tried a few times on our brick wall but had to stop when my mom yelled at me. They make me run fast too. I almost caught the ice cream truck down the street. They look really good too. My friends are pretty jealous and some girls started hanging around my when I started wearing them. You should really buy these shoes. You don't have to be a navy seal to use them, but it would be sweet if you are. If you do get them just watch out. They make you feel so badass you just might accidentally kick your mom in the face when you put them on.

I just received the new pair of low-cut Keen Targhee II shoes and so of course don't know whether they'll prove as durable as previous pairs I've owned and worn out. Thus the four-star rating. If this pair lasts a couple of years, I'll come back and add a fifth star (if someone reminds me). I get two years' use, or more, out of a pair, with everyday and sometimes very hard use. That typically includes at least one trip on which I do a lot of walking, on pavement and hard floors, and on paths and some trails, sometimes with a backpack. The new pair was made in the same place as my now-wearing-out pair (Thailand), for what that's worth, and the initial fit and finish appear to be fine. About sizing: I've found much variability in sizing, seemingly depending on the brand, type of shoe, and place of manufacture. I usually wear a US size 13, but for the Targhee II a 14 fits me just right. I really like having an ample toe box; I don't slide around inside the shoe at all on non-level surfaces. I haven't tried the Targhee IIIs, which reportedly are somewhat more flexible than the IIs. I like the solid platform and stability and support of the IIs so will stick with them. And the IIs I've had really are waterproof, at least to a depth of two or three inches. One tradeoff is that with the pretty aggressively textured or cleated soles, you're going to have a lot of whatever you've been stepping in -- mud, animal-produced land mines, or whatever -- clinging to the bottom of the shoes and will likely need a hose for cleanup before going indoors. Another tradeoff might be that some might find the shoes a bit on the heavy side. I don't; anyway, you can't have shoes be as stout and durable as Targhee IIs and also be ultra-light. Perhaps other brands of so-called walking or medium-duty hiking/backpacking shoes (Merrill, Salomon, etc.) are just as good or better -- I can't say, because I haven't tried them. The Targhee IIs are the best shoes I've found yet for overall utility, performance, and durability, far better than what used to be called "sneakers" or athletic shoes.
