The KastKing "ToughTide Fish Scale with Lip Gripper" has some design changes compared to their previous model, the "WideView Floating Waterproof Digital Scale." The ToughTide is substantially smaller and more streamlined, which is a blessing when storage space is at a premium—especially for kayak anglers like me. Unlike fishing on a bass boat where storage is limited, kayak storage is even tighter. This scale fits perfectly in my storage box, which slides neatly under my seat. One of the standout features is the built-in rechargeable battery, which eliminates the need for disposable batteries (and reduces landfill waste). Plus, it charges via USB, making it incredibly convenient. The bright blue display is easy to read, whether it's bright daylight or nighttime. The lip lock system is another area where KastKing nailed it. I immediately tested if I could open and close the grips with one hand—an essential feature when you're holding a big fish in your other hand. It works flawlessly, allowing ambidextrous use without fumbling. Another thoughtful addition is the storage snap on the back of the scale, which locks the hook in place. I finally stopped guessing and started weighing. After landing a PB bass and having zero proof of its actual weight, I realized a scale isn't optional. This KastKing one is surprisingly lightweight but feels solid. The backlit screen is great for those early morning or late evening catches when the light is low.
