  • I Have A PHD In Review Reading And A Secondary Bacheler's In Cutting Through The Crap
Color: Black Size: KM601
I read the reviews. OMG! Did I really want to buy this thing?!? I hate when they don't list the specs for something; it's what I go by, to a large extent. It turns out you have to buy it first, so you can look up the specs in the owner's manual. I have uploaded them for your convenience. (See pics) These aren't boundary-pushing specs, but for under fifty bucks, they're VERY respectable specs! I was pleased. I don't run a NASA lab. I fix, maybe, a really old stereo amp, I figure out why the trailer lights aren't working, I check AA batteries when a remote control is dead, I check for power when fixing or installing wiring so I don't electrocute myself. Just fine. The leads were a problem. So many meters to look through and I really liked this one, but it had weirded out leads with only the very tips of the probes exposed, which someone brought up in a review. The easy solution? Use all your reading skills and read ALL OF the product description and discover that the little plastic sleeves come off and the leads immediately turn into "regular" leads! (See Last Pic) This is actually a benefit!! Can you even imagine all the bent probes I've had on my many meters over the years, from pushing hard, trying to get a good connection? Not with those plastic sleeves in place! If you can't handle that, take the sleeves off when you get the meter and throw them away! Solved! (Don't forget to recycle) I was a little intimidated, wondering if this meter would be complicated to use and require a lot of memorization. NOPE! When you hit the big red middle button, it IMMEDIATELY switches to manual mode and starts flipping through all the different functions. The biggest problem I had was trying to figure out how to measure AC volts! I kept looking for an "AC Volts" function, which isn't there. Only "Volts". I went, "AHA!" and hit the "SEL" button and that switched it from DC to AC! Took under 10 seconds. If you can remember what the "SEL"(ect) button does, you've completed the memorization regimen! I have a Haoki meter that I had purchased in Japan years ago when I was in the AF and it DOES have pushing the boundary specs. If I need to know I'm getting a super accurate measurement, I've always grabbed that one right away. I connected that one and this one to two outlets on the same extension cord. The Haoki read 117.3 volts and this one read 118.0 volts when I did that. (Off-grid solar) That's considerably less than 1% and we don't know how much of that difference was cause by the Haoki. The power sense function works fine. If you hold the top left of the meter up against anything live - a power receptacle or a live run of Romex [TM] - it beeps and the light turns on either red or green, depending on the proximity. I haven't tried the temp sensor yet; that's how confident I am that it's going to work fine, too. It's hard to read in sunlight??? Really??? So, you're saying other LCD meters are easy to read in direct sunlight??? Is that what you're saying??? Boo Hoo! I COMPLETELY love the carrying case!! It's more hard than soft, it has a zipper, it folds apart, the leads are in a cargo net thing on one side and the meter is held by an elastic bunjee band on the other side! Not counting "in direct sunlight", like one reviewer was upset about, the display is SUPER easy to read! It's very compact, yet has a relatively large display! You are completely eliminating that big, complicated rotary function switch that can and sometimes does break at the worst possible time. And the generosity of the ranges!! Check out all the temp ranges it can measure! I'm actually calling it the best meter I've ever used at any price!! They were thinking when they designed it. I ma VERY pleased with this thing! (Price aside!!) Imagine how pleased I am with it after figuring in the price!! I can totally recommend this meter!! (Unless your luck is so poor, you get the one in a million broken one. You can't hold me responsible for that, if that happens.) ... show more

  • Impressed

Recently, I needed to replace a meter that had stopped working and was not crazy about spending $$$ to do that. So when I spotted this meter and saw the auto-select function, I felt it would be good for benchwork...or at least worth trying. I was skeptical that it would be a keeper, but so far, I am pleasantly surprised. I have not used every feature that it has, and have not had it very long (only about a month). But it has given me the same readings that I get when I compare it with my Fluke 87, so it immediately gained my respect. I have noticed that it may take a little longer to get that reading, but when you are aware that there may be a slight delay, it is certainly acceptable (IMHO), especially for the price. The only things I would change about this meter are that it can not be used while charging and I can not make it save my preference of Fahrenheit for the temperature measurement. While the leads are adequate for my benchtop use, slightly longer would be helpful when working inside a panel. But, it is easy to just swap them with whatever suits you. When using it on my bench, it has been easy to read and easy to use as it automatically selects Volt/Ohm...etc. If you want to manually select a feature, it takes just a little getting used to. But can be done. And I am finding out that even "automatic" takes some getting used to because I still try to reach for a selector knob almost every time I change what I am checking. Kind of like switching to an automatic transmission but still reaching for the clutch pedal...LOL. I am not sure that I could trust it in the field just yet. As I say, I have not had it long, so dependability is yet to be determined. But this meter will remain on my bench...I like it there! ... show more

  • Beam Me Up!!
Color: Black Size: KM601s
Ok, so I grabbed my top name brand multimeter to test amperage draw and got 'OL'. So, I tested a few other fused based tests and got the same result. So, yeah my fuses were blown! I looked up the replacement fuses and they cost more than this Kaiweet multimeter! I decided to import my replacement fuses (takes about 15 days). However, in the meantime I decided to give this multimeter a try and if nothing else have a backup when I get my main "prestigious" multimeter back up and running. **Spoiler Alert** - Looks like my main multimeter will be the backup device! This multimeter is amazing! It has a superb auto detection mode, bright colors, smaller size than traditional meters and looks like a Star Trek Tricorder but way more modern! Very easy to work with and is rechargeable; so, no more unscrewing the case to install batteries. The manual is not only user friendly BUT it provides "how-to" info about testing components etc. I am really into this thing and it's just a newer, hi-tech feel that is much better than the clunky meters and performs just as well. The only thing that I am concerned about is the fuses. After my other meter's fuses blew, I wanted to get a couple of fuses for this meter to eliminate downtime incase I find myself in a similar situation. I was able to locate the 600mA 250v 6x32 fuses for the KM601 but NOT the 630mA 250v 6x32 fuses for the KM601s. Worst case scenario I can use the smaller rating but I would really like to have the additional 30mA. Hopefully, Kaiweet will have these available for purchase soon! I am very satisfied with this meter; both quality and price! Highly recommend! ... show more
