  • I want one for myself!
Color: Smoked Amber
Bought this as a Christmas gift for my niece after an afternoon of researching reviews for all the options available at this price point. I'm no expert in the instrument, but I have a musical background & am familiar with the woodwind family. Let me tell you, this little ocarina certainly packs a punch & is EVERYTHING I hoped it would be. Right out of the package, I immediately wanted one for myself! Every note is perfectly in tune, and I could even play the "Happy Birthday" song included in the booklet after just one or two minutes of acquainting myself with this new instrument. I was surprised at how "big" it is, but it's legit the perfect size & feels very comfortable to hold & play. I know my niece is going to love it, & I can't wait to see her face as she plays her first note. Thank you so much for such a high quality product that's easy on the wallet! :D ... show more

  • Intonation a bit off, but still beautiful
Color: Gradient Blue
This is the first ocarina I've ever purchased, and I'm only just learning to play (I've learned several instruments, so I'm picking it up pretty fast). The one I got is exactly a half-step sharp, but it makes a beautiful sound, and feels good in the hand. And I bought this one as a starter, so I'm not too upset about it being sharp -- would just make it difficult if I wanted to play with someone. Love the case it comes in. ... show more

  • Phenomenal Value!
Color: Free Smokey Coffee
I really love this product. Every tune plays correctly as long as you have the holes covered correctly and with the right amount of breath for each note. I didn't run across notes that broke, or sound too "windy", unless it was myself playing incorrectly. This was an Amazon Warehouse product, and so I don't think this is a problem with it if originally packaged but it was soaked in what smells like medical sanitizer and because its not completely sealed ceramic, it soak in the smell. I've had it sitting in warm water to help dull the smell and even taste but I am assuming its going to take weeks before that smell/taste of hospital is gone. Other than that this is ceramic so don't expect this to feel lightweight, but it feels amazing in your hands. It comes with a nice necklace you can optional tie on, a protective case, and booklet on how to play with a handful of songs. One issue with the booklet is E4 is incorrectly displayed. It shows the two bottom holes uncovered which is not the correct fingering for that note, they must both be covered. Cons: - A4/A4# is especially hard to play in tune, its very very low breath. I have to leave 1/2 of my mouth off the ocarina or angle it, because its too hard to maintain the little breath required to hit the note. It makes long A4 notes really hard to play as a beginner. Its just a big jump in breath compared to the next note up B4. - The hole to hit the A4/A4# curves with the ocarina, even thought here is a small divot, it makes your finger curve to sliding up to hit the A4/A4# note makes it easy to not cover the bottom hole. The sub-hole is also a bit large which makes its ever so slightly harder to cover when playing faster. ... show more

  • Beautiful Tone, Notes are easy to make, good shape and size makes it easy to hold.
Color: Smoked Amber
This is my first Ocarina. I own many tin whistles, several recorders, guitars, and a piano. I have been a musician off and on for most of my life since very young. I have played professionally and just for the pleasure of music. I decided to learn this instrument after hearing some songs on YouTube. They were beautiful. After a careful analysis I decided to purchase this one. Primarily because of the reviews that stated it was easy to play and had a wonderful sound. I couldn't agree more with those assessments. I am very happy with the purchase and would recommend this to anyone for learning, playing just as a hobby or even professionally. It is a very well made instrument. The case it comes in is well constructed and protects the ceramic ocarina. It comes with a strap if you want to use one, a protective piece that slips over the mouth piece shown in the photos. I bought the Hal Leonard Ocarina Method book to go with it. It is very well written and has helped me to learn the ocarina quickly. It was in the first week I could already play Ode to Joy well with no squeaks or squawks. I know there are many other good brands out there but I would not hesitate to recommend this one to anyone else who either already played or was wanting to learn like me. I learned a long time ago that the quality of an instrument can really make a difference on whether you stay with it and continue to learn or give it up. Also, high cost does not always equate to high quality. It pays to take the time to really research any purchase if you want to be happy with your decision. The instrument does stink when you first purchase it but that is the nature of kiln dried ceramics. The smell does fade away after a week or two. I only mention this as I read plenty of reviews that took away a star on their review because of this but if you read about ceramics and the drying process you would learn that it is typical for them to smell some when first purchased. I don't see this as a reason to reduce my rating for such as well made instrument. The holes on the instrument are well done as well with a curved slope on them that helps you to feel them by touch easier. I have purchased many tin whistles over time, and some of them have been wonderful instruments where others I would not recommend to anyone. I don't have any other ocarina I own at this point. I feel eventually I will purchase another one but I am so happy with this one I'll have wait and see if I see a need for another. Likely, what would motivate me is buying would be to own one with more range to it. A bass or double hole ocarina with more octaves might be nice to have. I am a fan of Baroque style music and have already started learning a Bach song on the Ocarina outside of the Ode to Joy. ... show more
