Its table top is precision-flattened to ensure a smooth, even cut. The tough, cast-iron infeed and outfeed tables adjust individually to give the work piece superior support. Cutting is performed with three top-quality knives, which are fitted to the high-speed steel cutter head. The JJP-12 also includes a premium dust collection shroud, which rotates in both settings and has a standard four-inch outlet port, allowing for efficient dust collection that cuts your clean-up time to a minimum.Top-Notch Features for Safe, Consistent WoodworkingDuring jointer operation, the bridge-style cutter guard's base- located adjustment knob allows wood to pass evenly beneath the guard, preventing you from pushing down directly over the cutter. The planer function's cutter head prevents kickback with gravity-operated fingers, while its metal infeed roller and rubber-coated outfeed roller maintain a consistent non-marring feed rate. For both operation modes, security is a no-brainer, thanks to the self-engaging locks that fall into place when you make the switch between functions. For your additional safety, the magnetic on/off switch has a built-in limiter to prevent start-up after power outages and while you switch between modes. The JJP-12 is backed by a five year warranty.About JET: A History of Sharing New, Feature-Rich ProductsOpened in 1958 after the founder of the company, Leslie P. Sussman, took the first Boeing Jet Airplane trip from Seattle, Washington to Japan, JET began as a small dealer that sold air hoists and trolleys out of a single hardware store in Seattle. Over the years, JET has carried everything from snowmobiles, transmitter radios, and forklifts to nylon stockings, but by the early 1970s, metalworking had become the base of their business line. And by the 1980s, JET had expanded into the realm of woodworking. Today, you'll find that JET offers a wide range of popular woodworking tools that are backed with best-in-class features and excellent service. What's in the BoxJet JJP-12 12-Inch Jointer Planer P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); From the Manufacturer You don't have to choose between buying a jointer or a planer - with the JJP-12, you can have both. Leave it to JET to design a machine that allows quick changeover between jointing and planing functions. This versatile machine features an Extra large aluminum ebytruded fence with centered controls for quick adjustments, a built-in dust chute capable of handling both planing and jointing operations, and a powerful 3-horsepower induction motor that can handle the toughest lumber. A heavy-duty, fully welded steel base cabinet houses the motor and the planer table mechanism, while providing solid mounting for the associated controls and support for the jointer table and fence assemblies. Best of all, the fence can stay put when changing over functions. It's the best of both worlds, and it comes from JET. See more

  • An engineer's take
Style: Jointer Planer
Bought this to replace a Dewalt DW733 planer and Jet 6" jointer. Use will be small amateur to semi pro (but not production) shop. Purchased from local dealer as special order. This model has the straight knife cutterhead. I chose this because i sharpen my own blades. Also purchased the 708119 (1200 lbs rated) mobile base. My initial impressions: I like this machine because of the space savings in a small shop and also it means i sharpen one set of knives for both jointer and planer. Also its great to now be able to joint 8 - 10" boards. Of all other models i researched it has the simplest (quickest) changeover from jointer to planer. I like that the cutterhead & feed roller mechanism can be fully exposed (by raising jointer tables) and so easily accessed for maintenance. Machine is easily (for those that are so inclined) disassembled for servicing or moving. There is no oil filled gearbox to worry about. ALL tables CAN BE adjusted to dial in the machine using a dial indicator. Manual has instructions and all the bolts / hex screws are well accessible for this. Jointer tables stay as adjusted once the locks are engaged. Unit fits snugly on the 708119 base after cutting two of the bars for the base in half. Was not even necessary to lock the wheels for small jointing operation. Rolls away nicely into the same space that the Jet 6" jointer used to fit. I don't care for the finish on the tables. This looks like some cost saving rough grind at the china factory. Nevertheless they are flat within 0.003" . The casting seems not as high quality as my other Jet machines. I used 180 grit with WD40 to achieve an acceptable smoothness on all the tables then waxed to fill the pores as much as possible. Best also to make sub base for the planer table with melamine or laminate ply. I removed the motor to lighten the frame for lifting off my pickup. Motor looks VERY cheaply made. I hope it lasts some appreciable time. Nevertheless it runs well and there is no excessive bearing noise. Blades are supplied with quite a rough grind so the finish on the wood shows this in the form of barely visible lines. Jointer operation seems quite good. For me fence is perfect - tall, lightweight (aluminium), no bulky mechanism and easy to adjust / remove. Planer dust collection is not as good as i would like ( using 1200 cfm unit). I expect that there would be some sweeping to do if i plane more than a few boards. Also markings on planer table handwheel do not show inches.... looks like mm or something arbitrary. Finish from the planer is not what i'm accustomed to from the Dewalt 733. "Cup" marks are visible and again like i mentioned with the rough ground blades. However, NO SNIPE which is fantastic ! The serrated infeed roller marks the wood if too light a pass is taken. Maybe will try to reduce pressure on this roller. Of course it doesn't SCREAM like the lunchbox planers do... this is great for me. In summary i'm happy now with this bigger machine. However, if i were in a country where some of the other options were more available (Grizzly, Laguna, Felder) i would definitely choose those over this machine....I expect the higher price tag of these will come with a little better build quality. UPDATE: successfully installed "iGaging 12" Magnetic Remote Digital Readout" ... see photos UPDATE2: another CON : fence is NOT accurate over its full range of travel. at one point (where i set it initially) it is 90 deg dead. at a more extended position it drops off by as much as 2deg which shows in jointing result :( :( .. also the fence does not extend over full cutterhead length so it is not possible to edge joint 1" boards on the front edge of the blade and thus alternate jointing positions to even out blade wear.. i hope this is the last drawback i find.... part of me regrets this purchase a little ... UPDATE3: (Jan 2018) . bought and installed byrd cutterhead. No other modification other than replace cutterhead. Machine is now hugely improved. Large reduction in noise. Excellent cut results. Now i can feel a little more confident about having this machine. Fence is still sh*t but i work around this by edge jointing in one position on the tables. Changeover of the cutterheads was very easy for me. No need to remove tables or drive side bearing block. All done from non-drive side. Bought cutterhead from Holbren. UPDATE 4 (Aug 2021) Had motor rewound. Thermal switch on winding burned and damaged winding next to it. Seems my initial suspicions about a cheap motor were correct. Run capacitor also needed replacing - measured at 36uf and should be 50uf. Bearings are ok. Centrifugal switch like new. Nothing more than serious home / hobby shop use till now. Admittedly a little more than usual during last year of lockdown. Failure occurred during jointing first board of the day - i.e machine was cold. Modified cabinet to allow more airflow. Installed good DOL starter with thermal OL relay. Did not replace thermal switch in newly rewound motor windings. Will see how it goes. Still loving the Byrd head. ... show more

  • I like it more each time I use it.
Style: Jointer Planer
This item was delivered to my house a few days before the estimated time of arrival which made me happy. The shipping crate had an interesting "tilt" indicator which showed the crate had not been dropped or laid on a side. The only thing I did not initially like about this machine was the crudely finished surfaces on that jointer table. As noted by another reviewer the table surface has a wavy grooved texture. I found some areas of this to be so rough it pulled the fibers out of the cleaning cloth I was using to remove the protective coating. The distal end of the table seemed to have a rough bur on it that made it harder to push boards across. I finally took my sander and file and went over the entire surface. After that and a couple coats of wax the jointer surface is almost as nice as my more polished table saw surface. Due to the rough finish of table surfaces I was going to give this machine only 4 stars, but that was over a month ago and I've been using it so much I had almost forgotten my initial reaction to it. I'm giving the machine 5 stars now based on how it works and the product that comes out it. The boards I've jointed and planed have had no problems, the machine works just like it is supposed to. I did not have to do any adjustments and could use the factory settings without any problems. The thing I like best about this machine is how fast I can switch from jointer to planer. I can easily do this in less than 30 seconds. That is less time it took me to pull out and set up my portable planer. This machine replaces a 6" jointer and 12" portable planer I had been using for years. Before buying the Jet I was concerned that I already had a 12" planer so why get another. Even though I think the portable 12" planer gave a nicer finish, I find the Jet combo machine easier and faster to use (and much better dust collection design). One other thing I found I like about this Jet is the space it takes up is less than specified in the product description. I found I can remove the blade guard and slide the jointer fence to cover the blade, thus reducing that dimension considerably. I would like a nice mobile base for it. Right now I keep it on a Jet pallet truck I had bought for a different purpose. My workshop space is extremely limited so every square foot of space is needed. I haven't needed to change the blades yet, so maybe I'll comment on that in the future. ... show more
