  • Just arrived...Impeccable presentation with "give the people more than they expect"..attitude...
Edition: INSTRUMENTS
Impeccable presentation in the box...I was stunned to find a high- caliber mouthpiece and ligature included, plus a standard JP mouthpiece. Gorgeous and flawless looking...I was horrified yesterday when a Silver model arrived and I found it was used and fingerprints and white stain on the horn and a funky mouthpiece that had been used. and a broken neck bolt lying in the mess....Amazon is not to blame for these kind of things, they have no control over that..I soaked a quality reed and set up the mouthpiece..behold..the dream sound. slightly dark, which I love and have not been able to find till now. I didn't want to stop playing but I have dinner engagement tonight, anxiously I will await to continue this excitement...hope continues to go well...Jay's video was right on, comparing this horn to the much pricier Selmer, which he felt did not have the same depth as this horn..I agree.. I will continue to report as the days go by and I become more familiar with this instrument....two days later: today I tried out a different brand, in this price range..did not like it at all....also a third brand..pretty good..but lacking the depth and character of the Jean Paul..also none can compare with the quality, and not the run of the mill cases...this is a very fine case..the pro mouthpiece and ligature and cap and the gorgeous case alone would cost 200 dollars or more...d'addario mouthpiece..I have a few..all cost over 100 dollars...so I continue to hope this horn will hold up because Im quite sure, nothing under a 1000 ..can touch it....(im not on any brands side...only to satisfy myself and the sound im looking for...)..no one need agree with me, it's just my preference....today played along with a few friends..found out upper keys out of tune..different quality mouthpieces did not correct..also sounds a bit 'tinny' ..high notes...mmmmm don't like that...I take it to woodwind shop tomorrow and see if they can do something... ... show more

  • I hope the sound quality does fade as quickly as my last ones
Edition: INSTRUMENTS
This sounds great at first, similar to all the less-expensive instruments I've gotten before have. The difference is that before I got (cheapest) beginner saxes (and clarinets) and they sounded great at first, but then in a couple of months they sounded like crap. This time I didn't get the cheapest (you get what you pay for) I got the 2 cd, or 3rd cheapest and I've found that there is where the better-quality things start. I hope that is true because like I said this thing has a great sounding start. ... show more

  • sufficient protection during shipment
Edition: INSTRUMENTS
In general, it seems ok but the neck screw was found twisted as shown. It could be due to insufficient protection during shipment which leads me to worry about other hidden damage and the original out-of-factory tuning and testing .Meanwhile, the keys were out of the protective pads this time. I was influenced by some youtubers to purchase this alto saxophone due to its general performance and the cost. If supplier can provide video showing adequate tuning or testing for the supplied instruments before shipment, it will be more comfortable for customers. ... show more

  • Buyer Beware
Edition: INSTRUMENTS
Our initial reaction was wow! It’s beautiful and plays nicely. But sadly it wasn’t meant to be, my son just started high school with this instrument, played it only 3 times and a screw and piece fell off. I called a local music store and they indicated this was typical for this brand and this brand is not even meant to repair. Parts are not available at all. The repair gal indicated she personally had a Jean Paul once and took it apart and it wasn’t repairable. I believed her because she sees a lot of volume at this shop. Beware, it is less expensive, but the quality it low, not durable, and not repairable. Thankfully Amazon has an excellent return policy, so I was able to get my money back. Go for the Yamaha, I called several stores and that was the recommended brand. It’s more, but it’s fixable and that will give you longevity. ... show more

  • Model AS-400GP Alto Sax
Edition: INSTRUMENTS
I am a retired Pro tenor sax player of many years. I sold my back up alto sax upon retiring and decided to buy another one. I researched many student alto's and decided the gold plated AS400 was the one I wanted. I did not want to spend big bucks for a vintage French or USA mfg, horn. I kept my vintage alto mpc., a Jody Jazz #8 tip mpc. It sounds fantastic on this AS400GP horn. The AS 400GP played as it should right out of the box! Just like the Jean Paul people said it would. THANK YOU Jean Paul. My gigging days are over, but I still play for my own enjoyment and also play at my Church with the Praise & Worship band. I can strongly recommend the AS400 alto , it plays just as well as my vintage Selmer alto did, at a fraction of the price. ... show more
